Geaux Tigers!

So you're an L$U fan eh?

Just to keep in the theme of the thread!

How's LSU look this year?

A lot depends on health. A lot of key players are recovering from injuries. They had a decent recruiting class and still have a stable of runners in the backfield.

I'm not completely sold on Les Miles as a coach so this year will help me decide how good I think he really is.

Here's a pretty good article about the upcoming season.

Cubs stink this year. Must get excited about college football earlier then normal. Must bump so others respond. In heaven there is no beer.

When do the preseason polls usually come out?

Soon.

When I first looked at this it said 'you should come out with one'. Now it says soon and it wasn't edited. Am I going crazy?

I am not sure when they will be out, but all the ones I have seen in magazines have OSU at #1.

No.

so how did it change?

Also, here is another article I read recently about the most overrated teams in the preseason polls.

http://www.collegefootballnews.com/2006/Columnists/RC/OverratedTeams.htm

MSU is the most overrated, and much to my chagrin, ND is no. 8.

Mine had Oklahoma (Athlon).

Notre Dame is getting some also, and Athlon's has Oklahoma. They all have their flaws and there's no one that's a clear cut leader, but I like both of those two more than Ohio State.

As an ND fan it pains me to say this, but they are not a #1 team. No way at all.

I agree. They have a chance to win it all for sure, but they in no way deserve to be ranked #1 preseason. I'd put Ohio State for sure ahead of them, and Oklahoma, USC, Texas and a few others are also at least as deserving of preseason hype.

Who does Oklahoma have at QB? I love the college football season and I'm jealous as heck at teams that can win and have 70-100 thousand fans at each game.

Oklahoma's QB is Rhett Bomar, a talented sophomore who had a slow start last year when inserted into the lineup but did pretty well towards the end. I'm sure IMB has more details.

Yeah, Bomar struggled a lot early on and a lot of it is due to the [expletive] QB battle that went on over the course of his first year and a half.

He came in as the number one QB in the nation, and redshirted (right move). His year as a shirt was spent behind Jason White, Paul Thompson (who also shirted that year) and Tommy Grady. Grady and Thompson shared the backup snaps in practice and if something happened to Jason White, they would have pulled Thompson's shirt and put him in.

The point of all that is that Bomar got very little actual practice his first year in the system. I mean, he was even second on the redshirt depth chart.

So fast forward to last year and the battle is between him and Thompson and Grady. They split the snaps in practice pretty evenly, but eventually Grady dropped out due to grades, so it was down to Bomar and Thompson. The coaching staff anointed Thompson the starter, but it was clear after the first quarter of the first game that he didn't have what it took. I haven't seen a QB freeze like that in a long time. Anyway, in game two they made the move to Bomar, but seing as how he had been splitting snaps with up to 3 other quarterbacks for a year and a half, he wasn't ready. He was the most talented and throwing him to the wolves was the right idea (he's the toughest QB I've ever seen, and I watched Hybl and White get the piss kicked out of them for a few years), he just wasn't game ready at the time. Hell, against Tulsa, in his first start, we didnt throw the ball once in the second half.

Anyway, he is really talented and he really started to put it together at the end of last season, which is remarkable considering our wideouts were either freshman (Kelly, Iglesias), new to the position (Thompson) or injured (Wilson), our Oline was terrible and AD was hurt for the first half of the season.

Ohio State #1? I just dont see it, sure they are good but thats a tad bit too high. They are losing too many starters and good starters on the defense for me to believe they are #1. The offense is good and probably will be better than last years team. Yeah, yeah i know the defense has talented players filing the positions of the starters who have left but they are losing 9 starters. Thats a helluva lot to fill and too much for my taste to be ranked #1. OSU is top 5 material no doubt but not #1.

I can see LSU at #1 more than OSU.

Well the Cuse/Iowa series starts up this fall. You'll get to see another one of those teams up close.

I wouldn't argue with that. But LSU has way too many injury questions to be considered number one. In fact, a lot of prognosticators are picking Flordia or Auburn ahead of LSU in the SEC.

I like LSU's chances, but they will have a lot of doubters early in the season.

I don't think they are either, but who really is this year? Certainly once we get into the season there will be some teams who step up and are deserving of being #1. There just aren't any teams that look convincing at all as preseason #1.

I like Notre Dame better than Ohio State, but I would be shocked if either went undefeated. Ohio State's offense will be damn good, but I think people are overestimating how good it will be because of the Fiesta Bowl. Most importantly they're going to have to replace a stacked back 7 on their defense AND play at Texas and at Iowa before October. By the end of the year they'll be tough, but I don't think they have enough time to gel in order to win two extremely tough road games in the first month.

We used to do really well against Big 10 teams until the last Purdue game...yikes. I'm looking forward to the Iowa and Northwestern series we have coming up.

As for top team, who did Penn State lose? I thought they had a heck of a team too.

I will be at the Pitt/Syracuse game this year. It will be my first time in NY, and I am really looking forward to it.

I believe PSU lost a rather large chunk of their starters. Don't know the exact numbers, but I am sure that Truffle or Derwood will be able to fill that part in.
