I'm sick of the excuses. Dempster's been getting way too many of them lately.

I've never been as big on Dempster as most here, but it does deserve mentioning that he hadn't pitched in exactly one week according to Fred's stats.

Actually, he pitched Sunday against the Twins.

I was afraid I couldn't trust Fred's stats.

And he's not here for me to heckle.

Fight in the stands apparently. What a joke.

I saw one of those when I went to Wrigley on the last homestand.

Between a guy and a girl.

Who won?

No one really won.

They were arguing then the chick threw a beer into teh guys face as he was slamming profanities down on her weight. Then from there, it heats up even more when the security was there. The chick spit in the guy's face so he spit into hers twice. Huge loogeys too if you want the specifics. Then the big girl's boyfriend jumped in and we had a battle. Everyone was surrounding it so I couldn't see if any punches were actually thrown or anything.

The Wrigley Field Security was there and they both probably spent the rest of their night in crow-bar hotel.

Ronnie is talking about how the team finally showed up with Lee coming back. He is disapointed they havent responded before this.

Huh?

They scored a few runs tonight and Z pitched a good game. That is what Ronnie was refering to as a "good game".

ESPN shows him pitching on 6/25, but before that he hadn't pitched since 6/19. So before tonight he'd had one appearance in a week's time.

Even more telling, he hasn't pitched in a save situation since May 30th. MAY.

[sarcasm] eh why should that matter he's getting paid alot. He should be able to perform in high pressure, high intensity situations, without facing ANY of them consistently[/sarcasm]

Wrigley has security? Most of the time the only staff on hand is a bunch of senior citizens.

"You never put a time frame on things," he [Hendry] said. "My intention has been proven all along which is to give him the respect he deserves after a lot of years of quality work, and I'm hopeful that we're going to get better and it's not an issue in the second half."

The old people at first tried to break it up and couldn't so they called some people into action.

Some huge black guy and some other huge dudes.

I'm half-convinced that Hendry is saying this all tongue-in-cheek.

If by "a lot of years" you mean "1 out of 4" then yes he deserves it!

No one's arguing for an arbitrary pitch count. But Baker has left Z in past the point of fatigue several times in the recent past. A few starts ago he had clearly lost his mechanics late in the game, but Baker didn't pull him right away.

I'm not saying Dusty doesn't leave pitchers in too long, but I tire of the knee-jerk reaction when Z is over 115 pitches. He was well in control of his game tonight, and didn't look fatigued at all.

And, by the way, those who study pitching mostly agree that fatigue itself isn't the source of injury; when a pitcher becomes tired, he alters his mechanics, often leading to injury. In other words, it's not 120 pitches that causes an injury, it's one pitch after the point of fatigue.

So why the complaining tonight? He didn't looked fatigued. Besides, that's what I was responding to, everyone's complaints about 120 pitchcounts.

Anyway, since the Cubs have literally a 1 in 500 chance of making the postseason, why leave starters in any longer than necessary?

That is true. I'd say the Cubs really need a win for morale, but that doesn't take precedence over the health of a pitcher.

Z had complained of a heavy arm. I don't want to risk an injured Z for a win in a meaningless season! Look at the injuries PRior and Wood had after 2003. The pen just has to come through.

Whoever said that Lee still belongs in AAA is right. There were several pitches tonight that he just could not catch up to, that he would normally jack out of the yard.

I'm guessing it'll be late July by the time he's back to normal.
