Fight in the stands apparently. What a joke.

I saw one of those when I went to Wrigley on the last homestand.

Between a guy and a girl.

Baker not only destroys baseball teams, but also marriages.

He kills puppies too.

As len pointed out before commercial break, Dempster started the inning taking a line drive off his hip. Might be that affected his pitching.

I'm sick of the excuses. Dempster's been getting way too many of them lately.

That is absolutely ridiculous.

Yay, a rolleyes post. Our "sure thing" this season was supposed to be our bullpen. On the rare occasion that we actually take a lead, it seems like our pen always blows it. Yeah sure Dempster hasn't been in many meaningful games, but isn't that was side sessions and what not are for when you haven't pitched? The man's ERA was 4 and a half before this apperance. That's not that good for the money that he is getting from the organization.

Everyone keeps saying when Hendry's gonna fire Dusty ? Well, I think MacPhail will bring down the hammer shortly if this continues. A thorough flushing. The mental and physical errors just get worse every day. 9 losses in a row at home. Worst home record in baseball. Fights in the stands. Fire Everyone signs. What's next ? Flares in the bleachers ?

You just don't see this these days, even with the worst clubs.

Can someone please ask Hendry to define what it would be to "turn the season around"??? If he doesn't see that this season is over, then he is delusional. There is no "turning around" this season, it's a lost cause. If by some miracle the Cubs go 56-36 (a .651 winning %) for the remainder of the season, they will end up exactly at .500 and well back of 1st place and the Wild Card. Would that mean that Baker turned the season around? Not to me or any other sensible Cubs fan it wouldn't! Fire Baker already, this is ridiculous!

I've never been as big on Dempster as most here, but it does deserve mentioning that he hadn't pitched in exactly one week according to Fred's stats.

I realize that Hendry just got an extension, but if he doesn't act soon I don't discount the possibility of him going down with the ship. If he has such blind loyalty to Baker then I hope he's willing to lose his job right along with him.

Man you sure must have not played ANY competetive sports. How are you supposed to keep your mental edge pitching on the side? Ask ANY closer and they'll tell you, they need Save situations to stay sharp.

you can believe what you want to believe but I particularly don't subscribe to the the thought that having your closer in a save situation once every 17 games is going to yield great results no matter how much money he is making, and that if he's rusty pitching in save situations once every 17 games it's all his fault.

The "side sessions" and "what not" don't prepare a competetive athlete in a closers role for closing a game out. Think a little.

How do you know that? Injuries suffered from taking a pitcher too deep often don't show up until a significant amount of time has passed - months or even years.

Prior and Wood made it through 03 just fine...

Well then how can you even point to a cause for that if it's years later?

You take pitchers out when they're gassed, not when they've reached some arbitrary and all-encompassing pitchcount. You have to set individual limits for each pitcher, and if Z didn't get a 1-2-3 in the 8th, you pull him on the first hit or walk. 107 is not near his limit.

As frustrating as this team is; it's difficult to be upset with the losing when they continue to make me so much money. I hate it; yet it's wonderful all at the same time.

I've played basketball and baseball for pretty much all of my life. But whatever, you have your opinion, I have mine.

Actually, he pitched Sunday against the Twins.

And did you ever ride the pine for 5 games and then come in and were expected to totally dominate? Did anyone have that expectation? I doubt it. And if you DIDNT ever sit, and you were really good, could you imagine sitting for 5 games in a row and then being expected to perform to your top ability? Once again, I doubt it.

ESPN shows him pitching on 6/25, but before that he hadn't pitched since 6/19. So before tonight he'd had one appearance in a week's time.

No one's arguing for an arbitrary pitch count. But Baker has left Z in past the point of fatigue several times in the recent past. A few starts ago he had clearly lost his mechanics late in the game, but Baker didn't pull him right away.

And, by the way, those who study pitching mostly agree that fatigue itself isn't the source of injury; when a pitcher becomes tired, he alters his mechanics, often leading to injury. In other words, it's not 120 pitches that causes an injury, it's one pitch after the point of fatigue.

Anyway, since the Cubs have literally a 1 in 500 chance of making the postseason, why leave starters in any longer than necessary?

Even more telling, he hasn't pitched in a save situation since May 30th. MAY.
