So the next obvious question becomes: what roster move gets made?

Intelligence would dictate that Rusch gets DFA'd, but my guess is that Aardsma gets sent down. They're still probably holding out hope that they'll actually get something for Rusch before the deadline.

See ya later Angel.

Who's going to get de-rostered though, Mark has to come back to the 40 man, and there is already 40 without him.

Cubs.com says Marmol or Guzman will be sent to AAA most likely, looking at this weekends numbers I'm guessing Marmol.

As good as he's looked, I hope Marmol is sent down. After being called up straight from AA I think he needs the development time the most.

Indeed. I think he'll head to Iowa instead of West Tenn, though.

Yeah. It's not like this is Jim Bowden and Ryan Church.

Ya I know it will be AAA and that is good, Alan Dunn is an excellent pitching coach. I'm just commenting that since he made such a jump he should go back to the minors to continue learning before he sticks in the bigs.

The Cubs will never take this philosphy, but I say you pitch your way onto / off of the ml roster.

In Marmol's case, he stays.

In Fatty's case, he goes. . . ..far, far, away. . . . maybe even to a galaxy far, far, away.

Let him learn from coach Maddux. DFA Rusch. This is a no-brainer to me. Marmol has been one of very few bright spots, let's see how he progresses with the Cubs.

This is only Marmol's 4th year pitching and he's never pitched about AA; even if he has been a bright spot he's still very raw and the MLB is not a place to learn. Let him go down to where he can work on some things and let him come back up when he's ready. Maddux is a good source of knowledge but so are the minor league coaches; Maddux will still be here to help him once he's back up but there is no sense in rushing him.

Yep. Not that it changes the Cubs fortunes much.

Rusch should be DFA'd, but knowing the Cubs won't do this, I'm alright with sending Marmol down for some more work. He had a promising start and I'm sure he will be in the 2007 rotation.

Sending anyone out not named Glendon is downright lunacy. He not only is the worst pitcher on the staff but he's the worst pitcher in baseball...at any level. There is no way way that Marmol, Aardsma, Guzman, Marshall or anyone else has less upside to being on the major league roster than Glendon Rusch. This team is going nowhere. There is no logical reason in the world why these guys can't get their innings in at the major league level. So what if they struggle? We lose a game? Big flippin' deal. At least with the kids there is something to look forward to. With Glendon there is none. Plus the Cubs would probably save about $5 million on the post game food spread! ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

What should happen: Rusch DFA'd.

What probably will happen: Marmol to Iowa, Guzman to the rotation, Rusch to the bullpen. Prior, Zambrano, Maddux, Marshall, and Guzman in the rotation until Wood or Miller returns.

It's exciting that Prior is back, but I'll have to miss this one. Open workout/meet and greet for the minor league club today. Plus dad's and kids can play catch on the field afterwards. Too nice a day to waste watching these losers on TV

You truely are a Cub fan NCCF thinking common sense and good baseball decisions should be made while they seldom are. Keep dreaming my friend.

TIVO can be your friend. :D

The ONLY reason I plan to watch the game is because of Prior's return.
