Dont you think that Dusty was sitting there thinking that when Lee and Pagan come back the 2 players that would make the most sense to get rid of would be Perez and Bynum. Since he likes those guys he is creating an atmoshere to have Murton sent down and Walker traded instead. I have a feeling Murton is about to be added to players that Dusty has sat on the bench for stupid reasons while his boys get PT for even stupider reasons.

Me to my Sox fan friend who can't understand why I like Murton so much:

"When Murton goes to Detroit or Oakland in a couple of years under a competent coaching staff, he will become a star. I guarantee it."

Along those line Nolasco threw a nice game against the Braves tonight. I didn't watch, but saw he was player of the game so I'm assuming it was a "nice game". I think it was something along the lines of seven innings, five hits, five strikeouts, one earned run.

This organization is despicable. Words cannot describe how bad thing have gotten.

You did a pretty good job of it.

Heres the article

STUPID STUPID STUPID You really think you are going to make up a 12 game defecit? You are STUPID STUPID STUPID. Why not let the rookie play through his issues instead of RUINING HIS CONFIDENCE MORE by benching him. STUPID STUPID STUPID. But of course the only reason Ronnie is playing is because he's hitting .300.....YET MURTON HAS A HIGHER OBP AND SLG % THEN RONNY. YOU ARE SO STUPID CUBS ORGANIZATION FROM THE OWER TO THE MANAGER. WHY MUST I INVEST TIME WATCHING YOU LANGUISH IN INEPTITUDE????

I agree with everything you said UMFan, but it's worth pointing out that Ronny's production has been better than Murton's when you factor in position. Not that Dusty pays attention to that I'm sure.

the cubs are the knicks of major league baseball. it's laughable that a team in the race would throw guys like bynum and rusch out there. it's even more outrageous that a team out of the race would throw guys like bynum and rusch out there.

of course, the worst part is, murton will have a two hit game or something against a lefty and dusty will think that his platoon idea works.

Bynum solidified his platoon situation. He hit the ball well three times in the yesterday's game against the Astros. He led off with a triple and provides more speed. It's a given. Expect to see more Bynum.

so

pierre

womack

nevin

jaque

neifi (because aramis just has to get injured)

Bynum

Cedeno

Blanco (when barrett is suspended)

On the list of "worst lineups ever" where would this rank?

Move Neifi to SS and put Mabry at 3rd and Cedeno to the bench as he has too much talent to be included in this group of slugs. Maybe Pagan will be back in time to replace Jones in RF too?

Murton has performed ok at times, and poorly in others, and now will be losing at least partial playing time.

Pierre has been poor from day one. He's started every game so far.

Baker has been mostly horrible as a manager. He's still manager.

Neifi is one of the worst hitters in major league baseball. He's starting somewhere almost every day.

I may be way off base here, although I doubt it, but I have this feeling that if Miguel Cabrera came up through the Cubs organization, he'd still be in the minors. Or at best, he would be a platoon partner with the great Freddy Bynum.

FIRE THEM ALL!

And I have another idea. Instead of spending 4m on a manager, spend 1m instead, and spend the other 3m on scouting in the DR, Venezuela and Japan.

Just a thought.

But the important thing to remember is Dusty doesn't have any sort of unjustified infatuation with veterans and he treats young players fairly.

That's the part I don't get - Bynum isn't that much more a vet than Murton, is he? It must be the speed thing. Whatever, its not like any of this matters any longer. What a waste.

Let's play which players in the Cubs' farm system (current or recent) have better minor league stats than Freddie Bynum.

I'll start:

Luis Montanez

Nic Jackson

Buck Coats

Jemel Spearman

Sadly, Dwaine Bacon didn't make the list, but it was close.

I think you just stick Murton out there and let him develop.

We are not making the playoffs this year.

MOST MLB players take time to develop (outside of the occasional Pujols).

Despite our 100 mil payroll you have to develop some talent in house to be a competitive team. You simply cannot hope to land enough FA talent to fill a roster (recognizing that you are bidding against 30 odd other teams and the guy is a FA often for a good reason....).

The cubs rarely make the bold move in a timely fashion. They tend to over-react, however, in the wrong way and at the wrong time.

The are like a poker player who puts more money into a pot simply because he is already there. Good money after bad. If you have a loser you fold and wait to see what the next hand holds.

Play the kids. Pay BIG MONEY for big time talent. Work on the farm system. Stockpile pitching (at least that they seem to agree on). Stress the fundamentals. Get a manager who is respected, not liked.

If that article doesn't raise some eyebrows in the front office, there is nothing left to say.

They probably did...as they were thinking about what a good idea it is to get Bynum more ABs.

If Murton hits .375 against lefties, why not sit him once in a while? It might give him some more motivation, and that's not a bad thing. This team sucks, and is hopeless, so what does it matter?

The future is what matters. And this team has to find out what part of the future Murton can play. You don't just sit a struggling young player because the team sucks. A sucky team is a perfect opportunity to play a struggling young player. And you don't allow sucky veterans to play while benching the kid. That serves no purpose to the team.
