Why do we always have to face the tough pitchers?

I guess the Cubs should go look for former retired SS, out of the game for several years to bolster up their pitching staff.

I could hear Dusty now, "Well, you know, it's tough man. This guy Sampson was on. His first major league start, it's tough to get a good scouting report on this guy. We haven't seen him before. Sometimes you have to tip your cap."

At least these games don't mean anything anymore. The more we lose, the more the organization SHOULD realize we will be sellers, not buyers.

I just hope Wood comes around and Prior performs so we have more to trade.

I hate not being able to detect sarcasm over the internet.

So Hill, Marshall and the rest of the guys that were called up should be a combined 12-0 then.

They would be if they faced our lineup.

All you have to do is throw the ball towards the plate for the Cub hitters. Other teams might let a few pitches go to get a read on a young guy.

What's that mean? You mean, like, not swing at the 1st pitch? I don't get it.

Novel idea, eh?

I would love to see what would happen if they pitched underhand to Pierre.

He'd still play pepper with the pitcher, 2nd baseman and 1st baseman.

Don't forget the lazy fly ball to left field. He loves those too.

Hill would have this line-up in knots.

Guzman would cruise effortlessly as Cub hitters swung at anything remotely near the vicinity of the plate.

Ryu would certainly have more than one major league appearance under his belt if he got to face this team the first go round.

Too bad for these guys that they don't get to face Cub hitters. Can you imagine what Carlos would do to this line-up? I'm thinking 99 pitches, no-hitter.

Oh the actual quote is a goodie....

"I've told you before, you hate to face a guy you haven't seen before," manager Dusty Baker said. "After the first or second go-around, you have a better idea of what he's throwing. The key was he threw strike one with all his pitches. … He was kind of pitching like Roger [Clemens]."

I added the bold...

Doesn't everyone against the Cubs, Dusty? Doesn't everyone?

Jeez, I was just coming on to post that quote. Unfrickinbelievable... yeah, a guy out of baseball for years, and pitches like Clemens. Only against the Cubs.

How does he keep coming up with these gems? How does anyone in baseball have any respect for this garbage-spouting, excuse pandering fool?

Oh, wait...Kiley's first line in today's suntimes is good too....

You really have to wonder if anybody with a reasonable athletic background can come off the street in any city and beat the Cubs.

I know there's some takers among you guys...

I'll tell you my fast ball only reaches the low 70's now, but my breaking stuff is still good. Somebody give me a shot at the Cubs; I know I can make a run.

Kiley's way off there. You wouldn't need any athletic background whatsoever.

I believe the star pitcher (blond, from U of AZ, I believe) of last year's US Olympic Womens Softball team could shutout the Cubs.
