Whoever created the Marmol BandWGN - I'm aboard. This kid is money.

I'll create one! Since I have professed my man-love for the man Marmol. I think it's only fair I lead his bandwgn in all my geekyness!

How about a rotation of: Zambrano, Zito, Prior, Marmol and Marshall next year?

OR

Zambrano & Marmol

We will call them the carlos brothers. Zambrano will pitch four games in a row, followed by marmols one.

Not bad at all. But not as good is the "possible lineup" (that never happened) of Zambrano, Wood, Prior, Maddux, and #5.

So we will have to spend that extra money we save from Wood and Maddux (after Zito) on a Heavy Calibur LF or CF guy.

What I'd like to see (if we use your rotation)

Big Z

Zito

Marmol

Marshall

Prior

Aardsama

Ohman

Novoa

Eyre

Howry

Dempster

(not a line-up)

1B Lee

2B Walker -or- FA/trade

SS Cedeno

3B Ramirez -or- FA/trade

C Barret

LF Big bopper of Lee or Abreu calibur

CF Pie

RF Jones -or- FA/trade

If I remember right, Maddux himself, had a pretty terrible first year in the majors.
He was 6-14 with a 5.61 ERA in his rookie year, including a demotion to Iowa during the year. The next year he won 18.

Who fills in for Prior while he's on the DL the first half of the year? Rusch?

hey we still got guys coming up through the system! ... Gallagher is one i think will be something!.. and there are alot more... so hopefully Prior doesnt get hurt! (what are the chances of that!) and.... hopefully NO rusch!

How about NSBB correspondent Randy Wells and his sparkling .99 ERA in West Tenn. Guzman could be a good starter, too. You got other possibilities in Hill and Ryu as well.

I like the Carlos tandem idea the best, though.

I don't think it's coincidence that Marshall and Marmol have both been chatting up Maddux and getting some success.

"I talk to Maddux every day and I have questions for him," said Marmol, who was called up from Double-A West Tenn on June 4. "He answers me and tells me what I am supposed to do and how to pitch to certain guys. He is a good man,"

Judging by the results, he'd be a great pitcing coach. I was realy disturbed by the post I read some where here that said that the guys tune Rothschild out and that he's a joke to them.

I saw Marmol on a couple occasions at Lansing (when it was a Cub affiliate) don't remember him throwing this hard of course, that was a two or years ago, he's obviously gotten a little stronger. When I saw him, he was in the 90-92 range nevertheless, it’s refreshing to see a Cub prospect beyond Marshall, not implode ala Hill, Guzman and Ryu.

I didn't get to see Marmol pitch but I did see the 7K highlight. He had a really nice changeup to K Lopez who was the 2nd batter in the vid. Good stuff.

What was really great to watch was Griffey's sequence of ABs - he got him swinging with a nasty changeup, and got him to pop up harmlessly later with a similar pitch. To me, this means his stuff is nasty enough where they couldn't completely adjust...or maybe it was just his first ML start?

He has a lot of movement on his pitches too and has good velocity. We'll soon find out but so far he has been impressive. I'm glad to see his changeup though because when I saw him in relief he pretty much was using FB and Curve.

I think lost in all of this is that Barrett called a really great game for the Kid. Really mixed it up nicely...

Completely agreed.

Its nice to see a catcher get a little recognition after a W

(Too bad he can't do the same with Fat Glen)

Marmol has absolutely nasty stuff.

I hope nobody jumps off the wagon when he has that day when he can't find the strike zone. I mean, sometimes Z's stuff has so much movement on it, he has trouble hitting his spots and walks too many guys.

Regardless, it is nice to see the system produce.

Watching him pitch yesterday brought a wonderful and permanent smile on my face yesterday and for the first time this year really, had me feeling good about the Cubs. Not this year ofcourse, but I think they're heading into the right direction and have some nice pieces to build around.

Marmol reminded me of a young Pedro Martinez actually. Not at all saying he will have his success but with his mound presence and his overall moxy combined with his nice change up and 4 seamer, he just reminded me of a young Pedro. Not bad.

Dunn likes him.

"He's got good stuff," said left fielder Adam Dunn, who hit his 20th homer of the season in the eighth inning off Scott Eyre. "He's one of the best I've faced in a while."

Marmol now has the official Dunn seal of approval. WOW and at such a young age!!
