Miller was scheduled to throw in single A last week but I havent seen anything about him making a single start yet. This could be a concern since he was supposed to come back before Prior. Does anyone have any news on his progress?

Haven't heard anything. I'm wondering the same thing. Here's the latest that Rotoworld had:

May. 28, 2006 - 10:00 am et

Wade Miller (shoulder) threw 60 pitches in an extended spring training game on Saturday.

Miller's next start will likely be for Single-A Peoria. He is on pace for a mid-June return to the Cubs' rotation.

what's going to happen once there is:

marshall

maddux

zambrano

wood

prior

miller

?

would a 6 man rotation really look that bad? i know that i would like to see z every fifth day, but other than that... maybe you could shift it around alot and give wood, prior and miller an extra day off while keeping carlos, marshall and maddux on regular rest, even giving z a day off or something(imagine that)... or is that even possible?

Dusty's man love for unproductive veterens and Cubs unwillingness to make Wood a reliever = Marshall being sent to AAA or bullpen, and the Cubs screwing up something good. What I think

With an extra day of rest, each pitcher would probably see their average pitch count go up by atleast 20 pitchers knowing Dusty.

Are you saying Marshall is a better starting option than Kerry Wood?

I can't see Wood being effective out of the bullpen right now. With all the shoulder stiffness he's been having there's no way he could pitch in back to back games or even 2 every other day.

I really like this idea actually. I mean, we are pushing Wood back all the time anyways, and odds are Prior will probably be pushed back a few times.

What I think is Marshall is better than Miller. He has proven he can be a reliable (and good) starting pitcher. What I'd like to see is keep Marshall on regular rest. You just KNOW at some point Wood or Prior are going to miss a start. That's when you use miller.

I like Marshall, but Miller has a lot better track record than Marshall.

If the Cubs have all 6 of those pitchers. Miller should be the odd man out. Chances are Miller won't be here next year and Marshall will. Would be a bad idea to ruin Marshall's confidence for next year.

Considering Marshall has never pitched near as many innings as he will if he finishes the year in Chicago, shutting him down isn't the worst idea.

good point! i really dont wanna see him get hurt.... :-#

I don't know where you heard that Miller was supposed to be ahead of Prior. Everything I've read had him about a week behind Prior and a month behind Wood. It appears he is close to a minor league rehab start unless he experienced some soreness or something. So he's not too far off from the reported schedule.

Agreed.

But it appears we may have to wait a while to make that decision anyway.

As per the Chicago Sun-Times:

Right-hander Wade Miller had hoped to be close to joining the Cubs by at least the middle of June. But now it looks questionable whether he can make it to the big leagues this month.

Miller has been shut down the last week after being set back in his right shoulder rehab. He hasn't pitched since an Arizona rookie-league appearance May 27, when he threw 60 pitches in four innings.

Pitching coach Larry Rothschild said Miller could resume throwing this week. He explained that Miller will try to throw in the bullpen first before a decision is made on whether he can return to rookie-league starts.

Wade Miller, CHC Jun. 4 - 9:34 am et

Wade Miller (shoulder) has been shut down following a setback during his rehab process.

Miller hasn't pitched since his May 27 start in extended spring training. The Cubs are hopeful he can resume throwing this week and potentially make another extended spring training start next week. It looks like he won't join the rotation until early July at best.

Oh well...the Cubs are doing ok at pitcher for the moment.

I would prefer to see Marshall go down to AAA than to pitch out of the bullpen simply so he continues to pitch every fifth day. Obviously I want Marshall to stay at the Major League level but if the only two options are starting at AAA or the Cubs bullpen, I pick AAA.

Wade Miller makes Wood and Prior look like iron men.

Really... it was a good signing (tons of upside!) but there is a reason he was only signed for $1 million or whatever.

Let's face it: this was a low-risk, high-reward deal... but the chances of it paying off were more bad than good.

Didn't we sign Dempster to the same type of deal though?

We signed both Williamson and Dempster for two year deals and they both have worked out well. I think Miller is a one year deal .

How so? Neither of them got the surgery he did.

Wood did.

He did? I thought he got a "less serious" version of the same procedure than Miller did. Ah well, shows why I never even made it to flunking out of medical school.
