Way to go, ya jerk.

He better thank the Gods of Baseball that he hit that homerun in SanFran, because I was praying to my own gods that it would occur somewhere else, preferably in Oakland.

Were you joking about preferring he hit it in Oakland? Because he hit 714 in Oakland and a majority of the crowd cheered him.

Could it be that the majority of the fans at that game, were say......Giants fans?

I will never recognize Bonds in the in the 700 club. To me...there are ONLY two players in MLB with 700 +homeruns(Aaron/Ruth), and 4 total in the history of the game (Oh in Japan, and Gibson in the Negro Leagues being the other two).

There weren't necessarily a majority of Giants fans at the game. The A's have limited the number of tickets available for games in the past couple years (namely not seating people in the Al Davis section in center field) therefore increasing the percentage of seats sold. More people cheered because they live in the Bay Area. Hitting a milestone homerun in Oakland is the best road stadium Bonds could have possibly hit a homerun at.

In other words...he is cheered in the Bay Area, and ridicule in any other parts of the country. I can deal with that.

Nice sig.

I wonder what Bobby Bonds would say/think about all of this if he were still with us?

Like others, I'll have to say it's still Aaron/Ruth to me. I don't even need the asterisk.

I will never recognize what bonds did; nor will he ever be counted above ruth on any list ever as far as im concerned. Ruth and Aaron are the home run kings. Period. (untill arod challenges them in a few years)

Late night angry brain fart. I remember him getting cheers in Oakland. I should have said Los Angeles.

And to second what others have said, I don't recognize this either. Ruth and Aaron are still the kings.

Congratulations to Barry. And congratulations in advance when he passes Hank Aaron!

Arguably one of the best players of all time, no matter what anyone says.

Thank you!

If Bonds was on the Cubs, people on this site would have such a diffrent attitude on Barry. If you support Sosa especially, then how could you hate Bonds? Ludacris. Best hitter of our generation, people.

Well then, I guess I have an alibi to hate Barroid because I think Sosa cheated too and for that reason I couldn't stand him and he's getting his just desserts sitting on his butt wherever he is.

And I'd argue Tony Gwynn was the best hitter of our generation, not Bonds. Gwynn's avg was 338 lifetime, Bonds 300. Gwynn achieved that average without being walked a billion times too.

The guy we thought you were hilariously referencing when you spelled "ludicrous" as "ludacris."

You did do that on purpose...right?

Not the best speller.

Thats fair then. I just can't stand people who would defend Sosa but label Barry as a cheater.

since when did batting average become the only way to measure the skill of a player?

bonds drawing as many walks as he did (even before 1998) only adds to his skill as a hitter.

Unless he hit the HR in the 2nd-7th innings, half of the LA fans wouldn't have been there. /slight dig

I would have loved to seen him do it in Philadelphia (vicious fans..... once cheered when Michael Irvin broke his neck on the Philly turf) or if possible at an inter-league game at Yankee Stadium.

Runs Created Above Average for players from 1980 to 2004 (can't get 2005 to work on my sabermetric encyclopedia -- need to fix that):

1 *Barry Bonds 1496

2 Frank Thomas 796

3 Rickey Henderson 762

4 Jeff Bagwell 680

5 *Mark McGwire 665

6 Edgar Martinez 647

7 Gary Sheffield 605

8 Manny Ramirez 573

9 Jim Thome 571

10 *Rafael Palmeiro 564

Babe's the best, and Aaron's one of my favorites, but Bonds has indeed been dominant.

I've put a * next to the guys I think were juiced. Do we know the other guys weren't?

I'd also submit that if all of Bonds' production is really attributable to roids rather than talent, we should still give the man his props for scoring some damn sweet stuff.

Barroid's a cheat. Simple as that.

Is he a great player without the roids? Of course. But he would not be where he is home run wise without them. So let the asterisks reign.

I don't know anyone who hasn't acknowledged barry's talent. It seems to me that the other side are the ones who refuse to acknowledge the "help" he got for atleast 8 years.

I'll defend Bonds as a great hitter, one of THE greatest, up until 1998...hell, even after them, all the 'roids in the world aren't going to help you spot the ball and know how to hit. The only thing I question and look at with a wary eye are the home runs after 1998, as I do with pretty much every big HR hitter in the "steroid era." Bonds is a jerk, and the accusations of '98-'02 are pretty ugly...but his career beyond that is still beyond phenomenal. You can't just ignore how damn good he is as a hitter.

Why didn't you star Sheffield? He admitted it himself that he used steroids.

And Roger Maris still holds the single season homerun record in my book. All of the steroid freaks were great talents but a lot of those homeruns would have been routine flyballs without the steroids. Starting with Brady Anderson hitting 50 homeruns, Luis Gonzalez hitting 57, and through Bonds 73 the numbers are just suspect at best regarding homeruns. (Including the two time cheater Sammy Sosa - Corked bat and Steroids)

Isn't there speculation that Maris and his contemporaries were on amphetamines?

Players have been skirting the rules since the rules were made, I don't really see the point in getting so upset at Bonds, and I don't like him one bit.

that's what i was thinking. no one says anything about maris' sudden jump in power.
