So wait...he just got cut from some other teams minor league roster and now he's playing on our major league team....that sounds about right. I see him and Neifi getting extensions any day now.

Hmmm, wonder which out of those two will end up getting more playing time?

Stupid.

In 18 AB's with the Reds, Womack had one more RBI than Pierre has currently.

Plus he's been taking walks this year. I predict he sparks the offense. Seriously.

And that's the worst part. He could spark it a bit (only in comparison to how bad it's been), but still suck and get an unwarrented extension.

You might have a lineup with Womack, Pierre, and Blanco. Not exactly the 1927 Yankees.

Not exactly the 62' Mets either (they were better).

CUBS SELECT WOMACK, OPTION THERIOT

FRIDAY, MAY 26, 2006

The Chicago Cubs today selected infielder Tony Womack from Iowa (AAA) and optioned infielder Ryan Theriot to the Triple-A affiliate.

Womack, who began the 2006 season with the Cincinnati Reds, signed with Iowa (AAA) on May 17 and batted .467 (7-for-15) with a double, RBI and 3 stolen bases in five games.

The 36 year old has gone to the playoffs in five of his 12 Major League seasons and won a World Series championship while playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001. The left-handed hitter has amassed a .273 career batting average (1,339-for-4,913) with 189 doubles, 59 triples and 366 RBI.

Womack, who stole 27 bases with the New York Yankees last season, has 362 career stolen bases, ranking fifth among all active players. Womack will wear number 1.

Theriot, 26, appeared in six games for the Cubs since he was recalled on May 8. Theriot has batted .282 with 12 RBI and 5 stolen bases in 29 games for Iowa this season.

How dare he steal Augie's number.

Good to see Jim was garbage picking again, he will go well with the bookends known as Neifi and Rusch. Well at least we can give him a 2 year extension after he has a decent season, and saves us from last place!

Jim buys into the "One man's garbage, is another man's treasure" theory.

Thank goodness! But will we be able to survive with only 4 2Bs on the roster? Should we have demoted someone other than Theriot, or can Bynum be our emergency 5th 2B?

too bad he didn't start today. I would have much rather wanted to see him get the start than Neifury.

and yes, if I didn't have school, I'd have posted this before the game as well.
