The more games Mabry is suspended the better off the Cubs are. Dusty can't keep running him out their at 1B if he can't hit the ball.

As bad as Mabry is, I really don't want to see more Neifi or Freddy.

Maybe this will force them to *gasp* sign someone else or call someone up.

Nah, thats just a dream.

why would a man with a broken wrist come on the field in a fight? If he did, that's not too smart.

Barrett should not get any more games than Kendall did last week. How is what he did any worse? In fact, its not as bad IMO. Barrett was ignited by physical contact whereas Kendall provoked a fight because of something the pitcher said. For Barrett's suspension to be 2.5 times as long is absurd.

Did Contreras run on the field yesterday? I thought he did, and since he was on the DL would it be safe to assume he will get 5 games also?

did D. Lee really get suspended??

I kinda doubt it since it wasn't mentioned in the original report. WSI is worthless.

Did anyone watch the ESPN Yankees/Mets game? That's where it was supposedly reported with DLee.

Barrett 10 games is complete crap. Sammy only got 8 pre-appeal for corking, Springer got 4 for intentionally hitting somebody, I'm pretty sure Alomar got only 6 for spitting at an ump, and I know that Farns didn't get 10 for tackling Wilson. There is NO WAY to justify a 10 game suspension for Barrett looking at similar suspensions in recent years.

Geovony Soto, your cup of coffee is ready. So who goes down, Theriot or Novoa? It would make more sense to send down the 12th pitcher but having one less bench option might keep Baker from making an unneccesary double switch.

Let this be a lesson to anyone that thought the Cubs bench couldn't get any worse.

10 games before the appeal, how many after? Seems like 6 would be punishment enough.

Unfortunately Barrett deservest he suspension. He totally suckerpunched Pierzinski. Barrett will appeal and probably get it down to like 7 games, doesnt' really matter, this season is in the crapper anyway. Whatever the suspension, it was worth it. Since Dusty is unable to inspire anyone, maybe this will. As far as DLee goes, I think Bruce had a quote from DLee in his column today something like he expects to probably "be in trouble" for going on the field.

A sucker punch doesn't come from face-to-face confrontation. Agree with it or not, but it was a clean hit.

From Rotoworld

Derrek Lee (broken wrist) is expected to be fined for leaving the bench during Saturday's brawl.

"I think I might get in trouble," Lee said. "I don't think you're supposed to come off the bench, even if you are not on the disabled list. But it's one of those things where you go out there to help your teammates." Lee spent most of the fight talking with Jermaine Dye of the White Sox. May. 22 - 9:22 am et

If there's been word about the exact suspensions, it would be news to WGN radio. They were speculating about what the suspensions might be this morning before a news break.

Major League Baseball will begin reviewing videotape and the umpires' report today in New York. A decision could come by the end of the week. An appeals process would follow.

Barrett almost certainly will be suspended. He is looking at five to 10 days, but MLB could come down harder because even Barrett admitted he was way out of line. Pierzynski still doesn't know why he was ejected, and he could avoid a suspension.

Anderson, who returned to the plate to rescue his teammate after launching the sacrifice fly that sent Pierzynski lumbering home from third, probably will be suspended for throwing punches at Mabry. MLB likely will view Mabry more in the role of peacemaker.

I saw videos on YouTube and all I see is Dye trying to hold Lee back from the brawl.

Right...but Lee was on the DL, so him coming onto the field at all is a problem.

LOL.

That was a sucker punch, plain and simple. Pierzynski had no reason to expect a punch was coming, and no chance to defend himself even if he did.

By the time Pierzynski had a chance to begin processing why the heck Barrett was grabbing him, he was already headed to the ground.

Well apparently A.J. has some sort of reputation for being an instigator in the past. I don't know that but that is what I have been reading. Apparently he is none to popular in MLB. I never watch Sox games so I have no idea if that is true. A.J. did get a tadbit overzealous with a non play at the plate and then slapped the plate like he really accomplished something buy knocking Barrett over. So, it's not like he is some totally innocent man and Barrett knocked him to the ground for no reason whatsoever. Then AJ goes all nutty smacking himself in the face and acting like a moron afterwards. I am not that impressed with A.J. sorry. It's kind of like Zambrano's crazy antics. Yeah, it's all emotion but it does tend to tick people off regardless and get under their skin. It's all a bit unneccessary and just more for show than anything else.

Yeah, Barrett should not have sucker punched him. He deserved his suspension IMO. It's baseball and you are the catcher. You are gonna get nailed at somepoint. But I think for Barrett he just got tired of teams walking all over the Cubs. I think A.J. was trying to rub it in there a bit with this bowling over of Barrett and hand slap garbage. Barrett got a bit tired of it and lashed out. At least somebody on the team showed some disappointment in the season and how it's going. Baker never does anything. He just whines to the press about bad luck and hoping things will hopefully turnaround. Same with Jim ripping on reporters.

As far as Lee goes. Well that's baseball. It seems to be the only sport where every single player, manager, coach, etc has to run out on to the field and act tough but do nothing. It does not really matter since the Cub season is basically over unless a miracle happens and right sooneth. If he gets a 5, 8, 10 game suspension it won't really matter all that much.

guillen in the sun times...

''I see A.J. do so many stupid things, and I'm like, 'Uh-oh, he's going to get hit.' All of a sudden, when he has nothing to do with the play, he gets hit. That bothers me because you can hurt him. If that happens, my team will take care of that.''

yeah, he had nothing to do w/ that play at all. i think he was sitting in the dugout quietly chewing sunflower seeds when the whole thing unfolded.

It wasn't a sucker punch. I don't know why it keeps getting painted as one. He shouldn't have done it, but that doesn't make it a sucker punch, per se. Sucker punches come from the back/blindside when a person has absolutely no reason to expect it.

if AJ didn't see that punch coming and turn his head slightly as the punch came, he'd be in the hospital right now. Barrett threw a sledgehammer that was heading right for its target. AJ is very lucky he saw it coming and had time to react, as are the Cubs, because if that punch landed with full force, Barrett breaks AJ's jaw and is suspended for a month or more.

"He’s stupid. He’s one of those rich kids, he doesn’t think about (expletive)."

--Red Sox DH David Ortiz, on White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski. Ortiz actually liked having Pierzynski as a teammate, so these aren't fightin' words.
