Got to respect a player than can play through pain.

Albert Pujols has an aching back.

“It’s bothering me, it’s bothering me a lot,” Pujols said. “There’s nothing you can do right now.

“It’s either sit down for 15 days and let it heal or keep going with pain, and that’s what I’m doing pretty much, playing with pain.”

2004 - one "cursed" team wins it all the same year the most talented Cubs team in a generation blows the wildcard lead in the last week of the season

2005 - another "cursed" team wins it all, the Cubs are depressingly bad, and oh yeah, the cursed team is the crosstown rival and the fans make fun of us for the whole offseason

2006 - the Cubs are the worst team in the history of baseball, with the most criminally stupid organization ever to come to power, and the major league rivals are watching the single best hitter to come into this league maybe ever, and the crosstown rivals are going to win their 2nd straight pennant

Seriously, can we just die?

I see only 2 options from the Cardinals' standpoint:

1) 60 day DL

2) Trade him to the Cubs for Rusch

After today's "performance" it may take more than Rusch. We may have to throw in Neifi.

Fair enough, but they better throw in some cash.

So sad, and yet so true.

I have to admit, I laughed. Well done.

Somehow I just don't see this Gladiator going on the DL and missing 20 games due to a sneeze-related injury.

When Albert Pujols fouled a pitch off his foot in the first inning Tuesday night, the Busch Stadium crowd groaned as he collapsed to the field. And when the throbbing pain caused him to lie down on his back, a collective moan was heard throughout the new ballpark.

Cardinal Nation suffered an anxious minute or two before Albert got back on his feet and hobbled back into the batter’s box.

So if Pujols sneezed and threw his back out, you think he'd still play? In traction probably, right? That's pretty silly. I agree, sneezing is a comical way to hurt oneself, but it's not as if Sosa was the only one to ever hurt his back that way. The thing about backs is they can get hurt doing almost nothing. Sometimes they just seize up, and it's next to impossible to play through that.

ANd before people bag on Sammy for being injured his last couple of seasons, they should remember he routinely played 162 games throughout his career, and he was quite durable until he got old.

This one time, I saw Pujols get decapitated. Cardinal nation was worried for a minute, but Albert just picked up his head and ran the bases with it in his hand. He played a full 3 headless innings before the trainer was able to reattach it.

Somehow I can't see him sitting out because of a groin tearing off its sheath.

Was that the game where he got shot too?

Sammy's last three years in baseball he averaged 121 games. Admittedly, some of that can be attributed to age and his corked bat suspension. Others may speculate on other reasons (I won't).

In checking the facts, you are indeed correct that Sammy was durable "before he got old" - aren't we all

He did -- for a few minutes -- but then the swelling went away. Not that it bothered him...

Just used it to get more weight on his swing and hit a home run all the way to his homeland of the Dominican.

then he hit a second homerun that collided with the first over his home country, shattering the ball into thousands of baseballs which rained down and filled the youngsters with wonder and love for the game of baseball (which Albert invented after inventing his time machine and travelling back to the 19th century)
