Good to see that when the Cubs are in a hitting slump, Baker's strategy is to pull the rookies from the lineup. It wouldn't be a Cubs meltdown without a tremendously predictable bout of managerial incompetence. I mean, ask the most bitter, jaded, dusty hating cubs fan you know "hypothetical: cubs bats are slumping, what does Dusty do?" and, well, gee.

Wasn't this just the second game that Murton didn't start? And at this point it doesn't matter who is playing because nobody can hit consistently. I saw Barrett swinging at a Corey Patterson type pitch tonight. I didn't mind shaking things up a bit, but I still don't know why Bynum, Hairston and Perez are all on this team. I can partially understand two, but don't understand why all three are on this team.

Well, yeah, he had the extension coming

Worked really hard to earn it, too!

Dusty said in his radio pregame show that he was going to give the kids some time off (maybe just tonight) because their bats were slowing. I probably wouldn't have posted this without the words from the man himself

It's wierd, though, because Bynum gets the start?

Whatever.

At least Murton's D doesn't seem worrisome in comparison.

dusty seems to rest lots of starters when zambrano pitches. z's gotta love it.

Z inherited the Kerry Wood Lineup.

I hate this as much as you all do. But remember, before Lee went down this team was actually looking pretty good and meshing together quite well. But I do agree in what I will assume you wanted too. In that JH should have trades some great prospects for a difference maker in RF.

If I ever see this I will turn off the freakin SEASON!! And from what I hear, yesterday's game was pretty close to that.

I didn't get to watch the game last night...(Lucky me apparently)...but did stop by to find out that 2 of our top 3 hitters were not in the line up...considering we are mired in a slump of monumental proportions I figured that Ronny and Matt must surely have been injured in a car wreck....this thought was confirmed when Mabry was brought in to pinch hit with RISP late in the game...obviously that's a spot for Murton...and then when Bynum gets an atbat in the bottom of the 9th...Cedeno must have been severely hurt.

Oh...

wait...

we have Dusty.

nevermind.

And if Bynum's fantastic looking at bats weren't enough, his two errors were rewarded with even more playing time. =D>

You must be mistaken....Hendry said himself he was only looking to add guys "who can catch the ball" last winter.

I am not sure about Murton, but it did seem like Cedeno needed a night off. In the last game against AZ he was 0-5 and left 8 guys on base including 4 in scoring position with 2 outs. I don't see any problem with giving guys a day off here and there, though I am not sure I completely understand the logic of resting two guys in the same game.

Isn't it odd that the two youngest guys on the roster get grouped together for having bats slowing down and sat on the same night?

In the game before that he had 3 hits.

I don't know if Dusty is smart enough to come up with a plan like this but maybe he rested them hoping that with Z pitching we would win and he could credit it his new lineup and justify keeping it that way.

I remember Bulls fans specualting Skiles was trying to do something like that when they were about to hit an easy part of the schedule after struggling for a while. It was towards the end of the season.

Nevermind, Dusty is just stupid.

Why would Dusty want to justify putting together an inferior lineup? That doesn't even make any sense...why would he avoid playing a stronger lineup?

Its not because he has favorites is it?
