I don't even get excited to watch the Cubs anymore. Watching them play it is apparent the lack of fire in their eyes and lack of motivation and drive to win. They are slowly spiraling down toward the inferno and they need to turn it around quick. Let's all pray, right here that some offense sparks and gets going for tommorow nights game. And that Zam turns it around and pitches solid ball. We desperately need a "turnaround" game to get things going in the right direction.

It seems like me not watching the game isn't helping, so tommorow I am going to watch with hope. Let's get some positive vibes going in this thread. PLEASE!! Sure we can hover around .500, even lower, and still come back. But at the end of the season, when wildcards are one by one game, sometimes even a half game, you look back and think, you can never turn these losses into wins. So let's win NOW!!

I retired the Believe Bracelet for the 2006 season today. A lot earlier than I did last year. They could win the next 20 games and I still wouldn't put it back on. This team has no heart, no fire, no desire to win. It's embarrassing.

No that can't be right. I heard Sandy Koufax, Walter Johnson, Bob Feller, and Bob Gibson, were schedule to pitch right behind Cy Young. If any of them struggles against the Cubs  , Satchel Paige, Don Drysdale, and Fergie Jenkins ARE available to work in relief.

The funny thing is that C. Young is supposed to start on Monday for the Pads against the Cubs. His name is Chris Young, and god do i hope he is not related.

Chan Ho Park (8-4), Jake Peavy (1-0), Woody Williams (2-8), and C. Young are their 4 announced starters. The parenthesis are their individual lifetime record against the Cubs.

That is so right. When I watch these guys, I see a pathetic lack of heart and decision making. Jacque screwing up on the bases TWICE and Juan Pierre getting picked off second. I thought this was the year that Baker was going to "concentrate on the fundamentals". Why why why? Baker needs to go. Has anyone noticed Jim Leyland and how well that Tigers team is playing? That guy can manage...I don't care what you say, that guy can manage.

So you only believe if they are winning. OK.

I think this team has plenty of heart...yada yada yada...etc. They just aren't very good.

Exactly. I'm sure this team wants to win plenty. The problem with the team is a lack of talent.

I love when teams lose, they are immediately cited for having a lack of heart.

Amen.

But I know why we do it. It leaves some hope. If the problem is a lack of heart, then maybe someone can "light a fire under them" and all of a sudden they'll start playing better.

If we see the problem as lack of talent, what hope do we have?

We're getting pretty much exactly what you'd expect from this team on paper.

Strong bullpen.

Streaky offense (that is significantly worse without Lee).

Bad starting pitching (lots of rookies and fill-ins due to injury/ineffectiveness).

I know it sounds like typical Cub pessimism, but this team wasn't a division winner on paper, there's no reason to think it would be on the field.

This is what happens when for 2-3 straight years, very little is actually done to significantly IMPROVE the roster. We consistantly settle on multi-year deals with mediocre players or players who are terrible, but had a hot month.

We're running a $100 Million payroll and have what amounts to rookies at Short, Left, 2-3 starting spots, and a couple bullpen spots. You can't expect too much from that type of mismanaged roster.

Dear God,

We are so sorry as Cubs fans for whatever we did to anger you. Can we please have the real Mark Prior and Kerry Wood back, not these two guys that we have had on the team for the last two years. You don't have to let us win it all. Just let us be healthy for an entire year. Please.

Dear Lord,

Please take Dusty, Larry, Gene, Gary and Chris away...far, far away.

Amen

What do you have against the 3rd base coach? If anything, get him a lawnchair. He's got to be lonely as hell for half the game.
