The Cubs look to come back from being shut down by lefty Zach Duke with a strong showing in Arizona. Going to the hill in search of being 6-0 for the first time in his storied career is Greg Maddux. In his last out, Maddux only lasted six innings, giving up two runs, the most so far this season, and eight hits, while striking out six. The Cubs batters look to get going against Miguel Batista. Batista, 2-1 with a 6.33 ERA, looks to rebound from a start against the San Francisco Giants where he went 4 and a 1/3 innings and gave up six earned runs. The Cubs bats have had not too good luck against Batista in the past, bating only .229 against the pitcher with an OBP of .333. Expect Neifi Perez to get the start, as he is 9 for 21 (.421) against the right hander with 2 doubles and a triple. Maddux on the other hand has been hit well by the DBacks, who boast a .290 avg against him. Hopefully he can keep his hot streak going, and get the win.

The Starters:

The official game time is 8:40 PM Central, with the weather being Sunny in the 90's, so expect the roof to be closed.

Arizona always kills us.

This is going to turn into a laugher early, I think.

No faith in Maddux? I'll give it until the 8th when Dusty inexplicably brings in Novoa, Perez, and Mabry on one move.

Perez is probably going to be starting.

Then make that "inexplicably brings in Novoa, Hairston in left, and Mabry on one move."

Thanks for taking my turn. Does that mean I get skipped if they lose?

I was about to ask about this. Since we lost, the on-deck user should get the thread, eh?

That's what I thought, but I never got a p.m. telling me it was my turn. I started graveyards lastnight and I get up and there is already a gamethread for tomorrow. I've gotta leave for work now, but I'm starting a thread tomorrow whether they win or lose.

Is everyone prepared for Luis Gonzalez crushing Greg Maddux pitching, or do we assume that Greg's so good this year that it won't happen?

Because i definitely recall this being an ugly matchup for the last couple of years.

I thought this would be worthwhile to do.

To the best of my knowledge, SweetPete is still up since he technically didn't lose. He was unable to be on last night and I started the game thread. When the Cubs lose (should be soon), my guess is that you'd make your start.

Cubs are 12-21 at the BOB, and 6-18 since 2000. We'd be lucky to take 1 of these 2 games for sure.

And on a totally unrelated note, I just noticed Jeff Francouer has ZERO walks in 108 PA this year. He makes Neifi look like Barry Bonds in that regard.

Bravo on not being able to read, as it wouldn't have been your turn anyways...

I was going off the fact that, not only did I not start the last thread, but I was still listed as starter nearly 3 hours after the game ended, and still am.
