I'm pro good pitcher. I'm not going to stand up for the guy blindly. What has he done to earn praise? Look at his numbers (not just this game but before hand). His ERA, WHIP, etc. He still has time to make adjustments but there's been little to get excited about.

Yeah, Z needs to learn how to calm himself down much better. Larry shouldn't have to come out every single time Z gets into a jam. Sometimes is okay, but not all the time. Part of being an ace is learning how to control your emotions.

 

I agree that its not ideal, but regardless if its an ace or not one of the jobs a pitching coach holds is calming the pitcher down if he gets into a jam. Maybe even just send Barrett out there for a second. Im not watching the game today (so thanks for all the updates to everyone!) but in the past one of the things Ive noticed is that Z starts working EXTREMELY quickly when he begins having problems. IMO, getting him to take a deep breath and talk a little about strategy is still important, no matter who he is or what his history might be. I think it helps all of us to get out of our heads for even just a second, and especially with someone who obviously takes it as hard as Z does.

I think you're riding me for no reason. Please call it as it is. The problem today was bad pitching (just as it was yesterday). No one had a problem calling out Rusch but some people get testy when Zambrano's flaws are mentioned.

Coming into today's game, Z has struggled at his standards. And yet he had above league-average stats in ERA (3.94) and BAA (.227) and below-average in WHIP (1.52, stemming from his high walk-rate).

 

And of course, he's been the Cubs best pitcher the last 3 years and one of the best in all of baseball.

The Brewers are going to be a top 6 offense in the NL this year. They are a very feast or famine offense so far this year, probably because there is so much youth on the team but this lineup is solid top to bottom.

 

I don't think you can just blame the Cub's hitting or the pitching, the last two games have been miserable all around, it happens sometimes.

Agreed, let up on Blueheart, people. Z had a pretty damn bad game today and I don't see the problem with saying that.
