Tim Laciny reports major tongue-wagging in St. Louis over Jim Edmonds' cropped undershirt (sometimes referred to as a "halfshirt"), which many Cards fans consider to be a bit on the metrosexual side. Someone even asked Edmonds about it when he recently did a Web chat session. Edmonds' reply: "Half of our team wears a halfshirt under their jersey, including #5, #27, and #26. You should try it someday and wear it under your McDonald's uniform." Not the nicest thing to say to a fan, but you've gotta like a guy who refers to his teammates by uni number.

I don't know. The half shirt thing just strikes me as odd, is all. As does him insulting the fan who asked the question.

I don't really get all the crap he gets for the half-shirt to be honest. I think they were great to wear under my football pads during practices. If I lifted after pactice I might even wear it, its not a big deal, I'm just lifting weights, no one should care about making some fashion statement. They are nice and breathable. I even occassionaly wear it as an undershirt under my school uniform when it gets warm.

 

Half shirts= the only good thing about Edmonds.

It's not homerism. I don't make fun of people for the way they look or dress, whether they're hometown baseball players or bitter rivals. I don't really get a laugh out of it. I'm not offended by it, either. To me, it's a non-story. As pointed out earlier, the half-shirts are fairly prevalent in sports these days. And gay jokes pretty much ran out of gas in the 1990's. Being gay is more or less "ho hum" in this century.

 

You're not privy to the context of that particular web chat. The guy who runs that forum hosts a tongue-in-cheek sports talk show in St. Louis. It's built on sarcasm and political uncorrectness. Personally, I thought that Edmonds answered the questions the same way that I would have. You ask a smart-ass question, and you get a smart-ass answer.

I don't defend all Cardinals. Encarnacion is worthless. The numbers say so. Sidney Ponson has lived his life as a jerk. His history is well-documented. If there's founded criticism, then have at it. Making gay jokes isn't "founded criticism". It's nothing more than an attempt to get a reaction. Congrats.......... you've gotten one.
