I have to ask, why does Bruce Froemming hates the Cubs organization? I mean, I can remember SEVERAL calls with him as umpire have gone against the Cubs. This umpire, IMO, has an agenda with the Cubs. And if it possible, the Cubs should ask MLB to never schedule Froemming to work any Cubs game---home or away---cause it seems to me, the Cubs won't get a fair deal from him.

He wouldn't explain his decision to call a balk to Williamson? Now he should be FINE for that. I mean, if Williamson balk, should the player have the right to know what he did, so that he doesn't do it again? This is why I think Froemming has an agenda against the Cubs. And if Froemming wouldn't talk to Williamson, why didn't Baker go out there and get an answer from him. All in all, I think it's time for Froemming to retire---cause if the Cubs make the playoffs, and he is part of the postseason umping crew, the Cubs will get screwed---because that old man is LOSING it.

Rant off.

Wasn't it Froemming that made the call on Pappas (in the 9th) that ended his perfect game?

Sure was...

I knew there was a reason I didn't like him. If a guy's got a perfect game going in the 9th, and the ball is close, you give the pitcher the benefit of the doubt.

Froemming is the poster child for what is wrong with MLB umpires. They are accountable to no one. It is absolutely inexcusable for an umpire to refuse to give an explanation for a call. One can only assume he blew the call and was too gutless to admit it.

I was there when Froemming made an absolutely abysmal safe call for a San Diego player while Nomar was turning a double play. I could tell he was out from my 3rd base line upper deck seat. And if I'm not mistaken, the player ended up scoring, and the Cubs lost by one.

Yes, I was going to mention that. The guy should not be allowed to umpire Cubs games anymore. That call officially started my dislike of Froemming.

This may not mean much, but I remember as a kid meeting Froemming in Hawaii on vacation with my dad, and him taking the time to talk to me and my brother. And when I saw his name on the crew for that one game playoff in '98, I said to my dad "I know we're gonna win this one."

Too bad he tries to screw the Cubs, and drop anti-semitic phrases...

I'll never forget one of my younger Cub games I attended, and they announced Froemming as the second base umpire. Immediately I hear a "Aw NO, NOT FROEMMING!" behind me. The guy was right.

I have the same feelings whenever Angel Hernandez is anywhere on the field: especially behind the plate.

Steve McMichael might have something to say about that.

The difference between Froemming and Hernandez is that Froemming seems to have it out for the Cubs, but is reasonably competent against other teams. Hernandez is just the worst umpire on the planet, regardless of who is playing.

I still love the game where Mongo was in the booth during the 7th inning stretch of a game Hernandez was calling: "Don't worry Cubs fans, I'm gonna have a talk with that ump after the game." Hernandez subsequently threw him out of the park. I've loathed Hernandez ever since. Has Mongo ever been back to Wrig after that game?

we all have mental diseases don't you know. umpires are upstanding pillars of virtue without any bias or preconceived notions of players or teams. here's your proof

Wow. That is ridiculous paranoia. So you're saying that these umpires who more than likely could care less about the Cubs or the Cards have a deeply ingrained bias towards the Cards due to the history of the two teams? That is preposterous.

What is elementary psychology is the inferiority complex being displayed in this thread.

What some of you are exhibiting is known as "cultural cringe" which is an inferiority complex that exists throughout members of a group or entire culture. Inferiority complexes lead to neurosis in many cases. Neurosis is a mental imbalance that leads to distress and anxiety (IE - paranoia: the umps, media, and Tony LaRussa are out to get us/Maddux) but doesn't interfere with the person's ability to function in everyday life.

thanks Wolf! do we all owe you a couple hundred bucks for your diagnosis?

for what it's worth, as bad as Froemming is and always has been (and btw, thank god he didn't work behind the plate in this series, or else his bad calls would have helped determine the outcome of two games, not just the one)...Harry Wendelstatd is worse, and Eric Gregg was perhaps the biggest anti-Cub ump I ever saw. thank god they didn't allow his blob ass back on the field after the resignation/firing.

I've noticed he sucks as an ump on several occasions, but his bigotry is news to me. Since no one else asked, what is your source on this? Not to say you're lying, but that is a pretty severe charge. If true he should be kicked out of the league ASAP.

That will remain for a very long time one of the 5 best games I've ever seen.
