4-0 Dayton on an error by Brandon Taylor which allows a run to score.

They've now changed it to an RBI and a basehit, Yepez is now charged with his 3rd earned run of the game.

Yepez through 5 IP: 4 R (3 ER), 7 H, 2/2, 3 WP

wow.

i'd say that rusch, marshall and guzman should be watching their back, but they really don't have to, so i won't say it.

I think Marshall's job is safe for at least one more start.

Jaxx tied at 1 in the 3rd. EPatt hit his 2nd long ball of the year :)

Good stuff!

And, Harvey walks twice to bring his BB/K to an awe-inspiring 5/20. To be honest, those are the only stats I look at for him. I don't care if he hits 60 HRs this year; I'm convinced that if he doesn't improve his discipline at the plate, he'll never make the bigs.

Yay Eric!

Harvey can hit moonshots; I hope he figures it out. One small glimmer is that 3 or 4 of those BBs have come in the last 3-4 games.

Chiefs Snap Win Streak at Dayton 4-1

Chirinos extends hit streak to six

Dayton, OH – Three Dayton Dragons pitchers limited the Peoria Chiefs to just one run Tuesday night in a 4-1 Dragons win. The loss snaps the Chiefs season high four game win streak and send both teams to 9-10 on the season.

After both teams went in order in the first two innings, Dragons center fielder BJ Szymanski walked with one out in the 3rd. Jesus Yepez had Szymanski picked off first but his throw got away from Ryan Norwood and Szymanski advanced all the way to third base. After a strikeout, Angel Colon singled in his first Dragons at-bat to give Dayton a 1-0 lead.

In the 3rd inning, Josh Holden doubled down the right field line against Yepez and scored two batters later when Gerardo Cabrera doubled to left. Dayton added to their 2-0 lead in the 4th when Eric Eymann led off with a triple and scored on a groundout off the bat of Habelito Hernandez.

The Chiefs got on the board in the 6th inning against reliever Kyle Huddy. Robinson Chirinos and Jesus Valdez greeted the right-hander with back to back singles. Chirinos came home from third on a double play grounder off the bat of Kevin Collins.

Chiefs starter Jesus Yepez (1-1) allowed three earned runs on seven hits over five innings while walking two and striking out two. The left-hander also caught three runners stealing between first and second base. Dragons starter Johnny Cueto (2-1) tied a season high with eight strikeouts while shutting the Chiefs out over five innings. Blake Hendley retired the final four Chiefs for his second save in three games.

Pepsi Player of the Game:Robinson Chirinos (2B) – The Chiefs #2 hitter extended his hit streak to six games with a 2-for-4 performance and score the Chiefs lone run. With his 8th inning double, Chirinos is now tied for the league lead with nine.

Notes…This was the first in a stretch of 24 consecutive games the Chiefs will play against teams from the Eastern Division…Chiefs pitchers were charged with five wild pitches…Before tonight the Chiefs had thrown just four wild pitches all season…Peoria is scheduled to face rehabbing pitcher Paul Wilson of the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday…Game two of the four game series is Wednesday night at 7:00 Eastern Time/6:00 Central Time…RH Mitch Atkins (1-0) will start against RH Jeff Stevens (1-0)…The broadcast begins with the pre-game show on http://www.peoriachiefs.com at 5:45 PM Central Time.

Can you judge him by one stat only without knowing what his coaches are asking him to work on? I completely agree that plate discipline is important, but I also know that players in the minors are often asked to work on a specific aspect of their game. And that working on that aspect can impact their stats. If his coaches have told him his number one goal is to improve plate discipline then his BB/K is disappointing. But if he's working on something else and his coaches think he's making progress on whatever that may be, then I have to trust them.

I think you have to look at pitches per plate appearence too. If he is seeing a lot of ptiches but the numbers aren't there yet, that is a step in the right direction.

But let's face it, Harvey has a lot of steps to take.

I believe coaches had Harvey working on going to RF this spring. He's not as bad as people are making him out to be. He's a lot more raw than guys on the "OOPS" list in the other thread.

Fuld 4-5, with 4 RBIs.

Fuld started slow last year, then tore it up the rest of the summer. Looks like he's doing the same this year....only his slow start was shorter than last years. I like it!

I'm thinking that Daytona needs to play at 10:30am every day if Sam can keep up days like that!

Seriously, though, he had a tough April/May last year because he was coming off of shoulder surgery he had after the college world series...that's why he didn't play in Boise in 2004. He hadn't played in a while, if I remember right.

He has a lot of good baseball sense...*and* an econ degree from Stanford. A good head on the shoulders goes a long way, I think. :)

if the cubs coaches have decided there are more pressing things that harvey needs to work on than improving his k/bb ratio, he's not going to make simply on account of that.
