Lost in all of the drama of last night's game was the heroics of the youngster. I loved it when he got that hit to give the Cubs the lead and pumped his fist. And then when he caught the lined drive off of Kent's bat to end the game did you see how pumped up he was? I love this kid's fire.

Agreed.

But how about is air mail throw? Yikes.

Routine plays seem to give him the most trouble.

Let's hope he can work through it, he seems to have the desire and I think he can correct the throwing problem.

The look on his face after the throw was priceless.

Just wait until you see the look on his face when Walker is at first for 2 months.

I was kind of glad that Ronny tried to throw me a ball all the way over here in Louisiana.

He was throwing it towards Long Beach/the Pacific Ocean (due south). The wind must have done some nice tricks to make it go east.

It looked East on my TV screen!

Heh. A HR to straight away RF would be east.

In Cedenos defence on the throw Miller also had a hard time with a throw the next inning. Wet grass from dew = wet baseball = interesting air mail.

That said, yes he does make me Dunston nervous on the routine plays.

Cedeno will be fine... fielding is prone to slumps just like hitting is. One unavoidable thing about young shortstops is that they are more error-prone than you would like, but he will improve with more repetitions.

He wasn't the only one that air-mailed a throw last night either... Jones did it throwing to third base after a fly ball to right and Repko really uncorked one from left-field in the 8th inning. There were a few uncontested SBs where the catcher was unable to grip the ball properly to throw. Penny was complaining about the balls being slippery earlier in the game, which may have contributed to some of the throwing issues.

I have to say that I loved seeing that, as well as Pierre excitedly clapping outside of the dugout right afterward.

Nope, not going to happen. DLee will be back, I have faith!

All that faith, plus $1.39, will buy you a cup of coffee down at the truckstop. Remember, man, these are the CUBS we're talking about !!!

At least he catches the ball. A throwing problem should be easily fixable.

I have never, ever, ever bought into the clubhouse chemistry argument before, but if the Cubs somehow sneak into the playoffs this season, with this offense, I might have to.

Just ask Chuck Knoblauch.

Ronny's on pace for 45+ errors this season. With DLee out, he's going to need to really improve on his throws. I love the offense, but we're going to need stellar D to have a chance with Lee out. We won't have the offense to overcome mistakes in the field.
