1. Aubrey Huff- D-Rays will want a king's ransom.

But, isn't he hurt? I thought he was out like 4-6 weeks already.

2. Phil Nevin- Eh, I'm skeptical. I think the power surge is more a result of playing in Arlington.

3. Tony Clark- Could be an interesting move. They defintely do have the replacements down on the farm...

4. Mike Sweeney- Hm... Sweeney is a very good hitter. Probably the best bet (but at what cost?).

Did Clark sign a multi-year deal or is he done after this season?

G-d I hate The Score but I listen anyway...

They love to get fans in panic mode.

That is 99% of all media outlets goals. The more reaction, chaos & emotion they cause, the more newspapers sold, internet hits & better ratings. The media always stretches the truth.

Cubs.com has a poll on who should play first with Lee out, and one of the choices is call up Jeff Deardoff. Who the heck is this? I can't find any mention of him anywhere on minorleaguebaseball.com or any other site.

AAA first baseman, sharing time with Brandon Sing since Sing has started the season slumping.

No wonder I couldn't find him. It's Deardorff, not Deardoff.

WOW!

I just looked up his contract. If my eyes aren't betraying me, it looks like he signed for $1 million a year for the next two seasons (through '07)... sounds like someone who wants to stay in 'Zona.

Here's an idea -- how about be patient and see what happens with the players we do have instead of going into panic mode? No, the offense won't be as good without Lee as with Lee, but who knows? It looks as if Jones (and I'm not comparing him to Lee) is improving and Ramirez should as well. I just don't understand the let's begin trading idea. Can we at least see how it goes this weekend, first? I have a feeling some of you would be willing to overspend without even knowing how the team would do.

It would make a lot of sense to make a trade, but I honestly don't think that Hendry is going to make a significant move. That's never been his style (to trade for immediate need), and he's going to say that we have enough talent to win and part of his offseason goal was to make our team depth better so we could deal with something like this.

It's all a load of crap, but I expect that's what he'll do.

We do know how the team will do, that's the problem.

This was a subpar offense even with Lee. We're looking at least at a .200 point drop from his OPS last year with anybody we replace him with, even if they hit the hot streak of their lives.

I don't think people want to give up the farm for a stop gap, but they want to remian in contention until Lee and the arms are back in action. It's been said by several people that they want someone cheap that won't require a lot of prospect or any very good ones.

Do you really think that we might be able to contend with Lee out this long? I sure don't, and I'm one of the most optimistic Cubs fans around.

I hope the Cubs don't get Sweeney, not with that contract. Where do they move him when Lee does return?

Try him in LF with Murton in RF.

Well... just my view, but: Lee posted an OPS over 1.000 last year. By all accounts, he was on his way to doing that again this year.

For a guy like Jones (career sub-.800 OPS), I don't even think him picking up the play can fill the void left by Lee.

Even if A-Ram picks up the play, who's going to bat behind him? Barrett has been hitting very well this season, but Ramirez/Barrett is no Lee/Ramirez...

Well, if he's out 8-10 weeks...I expect a trade of some time . I don't see the Cubs content to have Walker at first for that long or to use Mabry for an everyday starter. I don't think Sing or Restovich are long term answers either.

The question then becomes who can you get? We know we'll have to overpay because of the desperation of the situation...so I bring you the candidates:

1. Aubrey Huff- The Devil Rays won't contend this year, and moving Huff could make some sense for them. He's started really slow this year (think Jacque Jones slow), so he might be cheaper than other alternatives.

2. Phil Nevin- Right now, Nevin is the fulltime DH in Texas and is having a power surge even if his average sucks. Texas would want pitching in any deal.

3. Tony Clark- After a great year last season, Clark started slowly this year. With Conner Jackson ready to play everyday, the Diamondbacks might be motivated to move Clark and his contract.

4. Mike Sweeney- He has a big contract and KC sucks.

5. Other guys that could end up available: Choi, Lowell, Franco, Durazo, Ward

Huff isn't even starting material. Clark would be ok. Sweeney is who I would want the most from that list.

I'm not sure Sweeney is worth 12.5 mil per season for the next 2 years.

Well, season over basicly. This offense was lacking when we had D-Lee now it is really pathetic. I dont see a trade happening that would replace Lee's production. Its going to be another year of following the minors, and hoping for better luck next year. This is just depressing as heck. This is probably the worst injury that could possibly happen. First Prior and Wood then the one dependable offensive force in the lineup is now gone for basicly the rest of the year. I just hope Lee can come back from this, wrist injuries can be huge for hitters. I hope they have an insurance policy that will cover his contract.

Why the hell must this happen to the Cubs? WHY? I just don't understand some of the things that happen to this franchise. Unbelieveable.

People who have seen the Royals play can correct me, but I had the feeling that Sweeney was on his way to DHing, let alone moving to a more rigorous defensive position than first base.

No, he def. isn't. The Cubs would just need to take the hit. There is some extra payroll for in season moves.

He suffered a fracture of the distal radial bone and the distal ulna bones while trying to brace himself from Furcal, who was charging towards the bag while beating out a bunt.

Lee flew to Chicago Thursday morning and was examined by Cubs team physicians. He'll be placed on the 15-day disabled list on Friday, when the Cubs announce a minor-league call-up to take his roster spot.

wait til next year......

dunn plz

I'd venture to say Dunn would take a Hill or a Pie plus more prospects.

But for being so young, he is worth it.
