I'm NOT concern about Pierre. He will be there when the Cubs need him.

Don't sweat a 2 week period, in a 6 MONTH marathon. Pierre will be kicking it into high gear before you know it.

In 4 AB today he raised his BA by 47 points (.214 to .261). :D

The bigger issue is what craziness Dusty is doing with the 2-hole.

Keep Todd Walker there. He's hitting like .450+ right now. Why are you switching him out? Stop fudging around with 2b, and just be happy with Walker. Don't fix what ain't broke. Jerry Hairston and Neifi are just disasters.

Heck, Murton in the 2-hole wouldn't be that bad of an idea either.

Dusty just needs to keep Todd Walker in there period. You can't sit him for a day when he is hitting this well.

I think Walker only batted fifth because Barrett didn't play today.

dusty: we don't need you yet juan, so feel free to continue to groundout to second base.

I think part of his poor start is his work regimen. He needs to back off. He's working out 12-14 hours a day. He needs to cut back.

Hey, that looks like John Brockington that's about to get smushed by Mr. Dick Butkus. :D

I remember Brockington starting out his career looking like he was going to be a great one (over 1,000 yards in his first two seasons), but then faded quickly.

It's too early, but Pierre helped contribute to the first three runs of today's game by rattling the pitcher.

the pitcher was scared of pierre in the dugout so he let todd walker hit a home run?

clever

If Pierre is bothering the pitchers so much then why are Walker's numbers so much better with bases empty than with runners on?

Because Pierre has the scary ogre mask on in the dugout. He can't wear it when he's on base.

The biggest problem with this team, if you want to search for a problem with a 7-4 team, is inconsistent starting pitching.

Pierre's slow start has not hurt the team overall. It should be noted that while Pierre has only been on base 14 times, he has scored 9 of those times, which projects to well over 100 Runs at this point.

By the way, where are people crying about Ramirez's dreadful start? Why pick on just Pierre? (It's a rhetorical question, no need for responses).

I started to post that I was more concerned about Ramirez's slow start because I figured it'd have more meaningful effect on winning and losing, but I got distracted yesterday.

There are probably two reasons people aren't all over Aramis. 1) We have established experience with what he's capable of doing, and he started off even slower last year. 2) he's not a new, one-dimensional hitter coming off a down year. Nevertheless, Aramis is more important to this team than Pierre is, and if he keeps struggling (and right now it appears he won't) the team will have problems as soon as guys who are red hot come down to earth.

I think Ramirez will break out of it as he usually starts slow plus I think he is a warm weather hitter.

Recent games would tend to support your position.

Also---I'm not the biggest Pierre fan but he did just have a pretty good game so let's give him some more time.

Overall, the glaring deficiency is the lack of Prior & Wood. This isn't a suprise to anyone. To me the team is performing slightly better than I thought they would to this point. The Cardinals sweep really helped.

I watched the Dodgers last night, and there's no reason we can't do some damage out there as well.

What I'm hoping for are the days the Cubs hitters are struggling and Pierre gets on...steals second...moves over on a grounder to 2nd and scores on a sac fly and the Cubs win 2-1. IMO, baseball is not a game that all 8 guys have to hit 400 and if they do there is a pretty good chance they will all hit 150-200 following that. That's why I thought it was ok when Jones was struggling and the others were hitting the heck out of the ball and when the game was tight Jones came up with a big 3 run shot. Granted, you can't plan these things but that's what winning teams do, they have a guy step up and do something that helps win the game. If the Cubs can keep this winning desire and confidence I think it'll help a lot in winning some of those types of games.

Right now Lee, Walker and Cedeno are hitting the heck out of the ball and Barrett and Murton are doing pretty well. If this goes the right way Ramirez, Pierre and one of those guys above will be hitting the ball well and the others will contribute at different times when they go into a slide. The same can be said about the pitching. Rusch stepped up Sunday after Z struggled as did the hitters. I just wish Baker wouldn't use Dempster so much.

I'm predicting that Ramirez is gonna have a big series in L.A. Last year he started out horrendous and then was amazing the rest of the season. If Ramirez could start out as hot as lee did last year, man oh man would he be racking up the HUGE numbers.

Man, if he and Lee could get hot, they could both jack 40 and drive in 120-140, just like Papi and Manny

Maybe Ramirez, but not Lee. Dusty will make sure that Lee will get no baserunners ahead of him.

Heck, we probably were better off leading Lee last year.
