TY Jim Hendry for fleecing the Red Sox!!

 

Murton was a last minute throw in, but yeah, it worked out well for us.

Hendry refused to do the deal without Murton as I recall. He knew what he was getting.

I thought that Hendry insisted the Sox add in Murton since we were giving up so many kids to get everyone what they needed for us to get Garciaparra.

TOP OF THE FIFTH INNING

 

Walker singled to center field

Lee singled to left center field, Walker to third

Ramirez flied out to center field, runners holding

Barrett singeld to right field, Walker scored, Lee to second

Mabry grounded an IF single to short, Lee to third, Barrett to second

Murton tripled off the wall in right fgield, Lee, Barrett & Mabry scored

Cedeno grounded into a FC, 4-2, Murton out at home

Marshall struck out swinging

 

4 runs, 5 hits, 0 errors, 1 men left on base

Murton was the eighth, coming to the Cubs as the proverbial throw-in player Hendry had scouted but hardly coveted.

 

"I think his name first came up at (2:50) and five minutes later, with five minutes to spare, we had a deal," Hendry recalled. "It was quick, I know that."
