jones better start hitting soon or he's going to be the new whipping boy, and all he has to do is ask his buddy latroy about how much fun that is.

How long will the Cubs be stuck with him? Three more years.

With his contract I don't see how the Cubs can get rid of him even if they wanted to.

I've been ripping on Jones badly too, but let's give him more then 4 games. He's not going to be anything great, I doubt he'll hit better then Burnitz last year, but he'll probably be a better option then anyone else when all is said and done.

The best thing is though is that we have him for 3 years, so it will be hard to trade for an upgrade at the deadline!

I just hope somebody starts to hit in right field. Whether that is Jacque, Pagan, Pie, etc. I just want some production out of that spot.

I don't think Jacque should be dropped yet. Maybe against a lefty pitcher. But dropping him now will just hurt his confidence. Give him some time.

When are we gonna learn not to make deals with the Twins????

Big Cub/Twins busts that come to mind:

Rick Aguilera

LaTroy Hawkins

and now.. Jones

ehh, the way it's structured, they could trade him after this season (or definitely after 07).

i think jones gets moved down in the order tomorrow night - i can't see dusty sitting him until he gets a hit. too hard on his ego.

An excellent point.

Hawkins and Jones were both free agents.

That's right... thanks for the correction.

The question should then be:

..... When are the Cubs gonna learn not to deal with, or sign former Twins???

We just seem to have terrible luck with players from that organization.

He's reminding me more and more of Corey Patterson everyday. Felix Pie watch last 2 days: 5/8, 2 SB, 2B and an outfield assist

He's reminding me more and more of Roger Cedeno everyday.

At least Corey wasn't so dramatically overpaid...

LOL. After 4 games, the question "How long will Dusty start Jones?" gets posed, yet people still like Corey and would rather he be in RF. Can someone please explain to me why Corey gets unlimited slack and Jones gets a week of games?

actually, w/o minnesota we would have no nomar/murton. remember, meintckavicklafhpadg was a cub for a few moments, as boston wouldn't do the deal without getting him.

Yeah, but now the Twins are holding onto Justin Jones, who is looking healthy by the way...

Corey's last two season for the Cubs were horrible especially 2005.

On another note, anyone else notice the Orioles like Cubs castoffs. They got Sosa for 2005 and Patterson and LaTroy Hawkins this year.

I don't think the people who posed the question are the same ones who give Corey "unlimited slack". Also, some of the reason that people would prefer Corey over Jones isn't over performance, it's about age and contract.

But at the same time Jacque has had a couple good seasons in the majors while Corey had half of a good season. I understand your point but at least Jacque has proven to be a decent player. He's 30, going on 31 while Corey is 26 so I see your point on that matter as well as Jones' 3 yr contract. Here's hoping Jones turns it around.

Corey had a good season in '04.

Corey's numbers in 04 were basically the same as Jacque's in 05.

.266/.320./.452 with 168 strikeouts is a good season? That's a bit generous, don't you think?

He was very good the first half of 2003. I do remember a couple times in 2004 where he looked like he was putting it together, but it was always a fleeting moment and he returned to the same old Corey.

A .772 OPS is pretty decent for a CF. That's the other difference between the two. Patterson when he's done well has been serviceable to good for a CF. Jones is well below average for a corner OF.
