I would have loved to see him play his whole career in the majors. He hit .385 at age 21 in Japan in 1994. He could probably play forever and I bet he would have made a run at Rose's hits record. If you give him 220 hits a season over 20 years, that's 4400.

Has he ever spent any significant time on the injured list? Seems like he plays everyday and has at least 1 hit everyday.

His last two seasons in Japan were around 30 games short of a full season. I don't know why that is, but other than that, he's played in almost every game of every pro season.

I was actually kind of hoping he'd carry the streak a little further. I was watching the end of the game in Sears when told my girlfriend I wondered if Rollins got a hit, the Cards fan clerk smugly said "no way! My boys held him to 0-4!" then did that annoying fist pump at his side.

So long as my team was winning, I care nothing about stopping a streak like that, but that's just me.

For some reason I wasn't really rooting for Rollins. He seems like a nice enough guy, but I just couldn't get behind it. *shrug*

Holding over hitting streaks from year to year is lame.

Yep, really his hitting streak was stopped at 2.

I agree. It is like the "Tiger Slam" in goof (yes I know I spelled it wrong)

I think someone needs to go back through the box scores. What game didn't Ichiro get a hit?

Ichiro has hit safely in all four games this year and the last four games of last year. He went 0-3 against Texas on September 27.

As for holding the hit streaks over I think they should do it. I think it should be considered different from Dimaggio's 56, but if somebody hits in 57 over two season I think he should be honored with the longest overall hitting streak of all time. But I don't think anyone is ever going to break it. It's just too long and requires too much luck. There are tons of great hitters that never even got to 30 games.
