What about A-Rod, Unit and Junior?

I can't imagine any of them being good managers.

I'm just saying I can't remember any young players he had that were good that he didn't play.

No, he definitely gave playing time to his hall of famers.

Well those were three young guys, maybe not so much in the case of Johnson although he wasn't really established, and Junior was established, but he did play Arod from the beginning, haha. Dusty would have started Luis Sojo.

Something tells me Dusty has little desire to come back, he's never seemed comfortable in Chicago.

Agreed. I think that is the part of this that many are discounting. I'd wager that he doesn't like it here.

I'd rather just let Lou pick his own staff.

I'd rather keep Dusty than have Piniella managing the team.

FIF!

seis.

Piniella with guys like Cedeno and Murton on the team = very unhappy Cubs fans.

Whatever, I'd rather win than anything else. If we win every year and never have a rookie on the team, I could care less. If I liked to watch a team full of young players, I'd watch be a fan of the Devil Rays. Hopefully we can get a good manager, and forget about getting some guy you like who preaches the importance of walks or anything like that because it ain't happening. Just keep that in mind.

I'm all for replacing Baker with a better manager, it's just Piniella isn't that manager.

Give me Davey Johnson, Fredi Gonzalez, or Larry Dierker any day.

Well, knowing the Cubs, we're probably gonna get something along the lines of Lloyd McClendon, Jim Fregosi, Jimy Williams, Art Howe, so who do you like from that list?

All of them ahead of Lou.

I'd be happy with McClendon, none of the others though, especially Howe.

Which one of the four would you want though, seriously because this is the type of manager we are getting if Dusty goes.

I would hate to have McClendon on this team. All of my Pirate fan friends hated the guy and he never impressed me in the times I've watched him manage a team.

I think he's the best from my list. So who do you prefer: Fregosi, Williams, or Howe?

None of the above. Blech.

That's the whole point. If wer'e gonna speculate about who the next manager could be, let's talk about the types of guys that actually have a chance at getting interviewed by the Cubs. And after doing so, we can ask ourselves if we still want Dusty gone for one of them.

My question is, why are those the types, and how would you know?

If we are talking about our dream staff of available guys that we probably would never go after, I'd go with:

Manager: Cito Gaston

Pitching: Ray Miller

Hitting: Walt Hriniak

Bench: Joe Nosak

Running/D: Tom Emanski

Why do you assume those guys over guys like Davey Johnson, Dierker, or Gonzalez?

If you mean former managers, then Johnson and Dierker fit the bill.

Rumor has it that if Baker hadn't accepted the Cubs job prior to the 03 season that Gonzalez really impressed in interviews.

I think the trio of Dierker, Johnson, and Gonzalez are just as likely as Fregsosi, Williams, or Howe. And I'd take any of the former over the later.
