Inside word out of Arizona is that the Cubs and the Angel's are looking to swap top prospects.

The Angel's farm system is lacking in OF talent but are logged jammed in the IF. The Cubs seem to have a well stock farm but lack any power hiting IF. The trade seems like it could both clubs, Felix Pie is expected to be traded some time this week for Howie Kendrick.

Additional reporting by Matt Marrone

I picked this tidbit off on cubs.com---I know, I know, but---and I don't know how credibility is it, but....I think it should be interesting debate. Would anybody here at least consider a Felix Pie for Howie Kendrick trade?

this is interesting.

i'd assume trading pie would mean we'd be locking up pierre.

i could probably live with this.

and vance, afaik wood is considered untouchable by stoneman.

now that i think about this a little, i think i would definitely do this trade.

kendrick projected to be the best 2b in the AL by PECOTA this year. he's ML ready, and if hendry and dusty really hate walker, i'd much rather have him playing than hairston or neifi. though i can't imagine dusty letting two rookies be his DP combo...

I wouldn't do it.

5 tool center fielders are in less supply than 2baseman. It's much easier to find a productive 2nd baseman than CF. Heck, the Cubs have two right now.

Pie is special.

why would the cubs even consider trading for a 2b when they have ep? he could be starting at 2b for the big club in 2007 if he tears up aa like he did a ball.

Can anyone supply info and stats on Kendrick? I'm admittedly not too knowledgable about other teams' top prospects.

359/404/555/959 in the minors

Sheesh, that kid is good. I'd do it. Much harder to find MIFers who can rake like that. Forget EPatt - trade him as part of a package for an OFer who can help in RF.

Surely you fellas aren't buying this? WHen questioned about the link for the story, here was his comment:

I copied the story from another message board.

This from a guy who has been a member of Cubs.com for about 6 days and has 90 posts.

I don't buy it.

He's a right handed hitter who doesn't profile well defensively at his position, is not a plus baserunner, is a pretty big hacker in his own right, and we want to trade Pie for him?

Why? Because all Cub prospects fail?

I wouldn't do it. I don't have a good feeling about Kendrick. I think Pie has the higher upside, and I think OF is a bigger need right now for the Cubs, being that they will be a bottom 5 OF for the 2nd year in a row.

As for the productive CF vs. productive 2B argument.

Productive 2B- M. Giles, Utley, Soriano, Kent, Roberts. Possibly add Biggio, Cantu and Figgins (who played 2 more positions more often than 2B).

Productive CF- Griffey, Sizemore, Wells, A Jones, Damon, Beltran, Edmonds. Possibly add Figgins (most played position), Crisp, Winn, Wilkerson, Rowand.

yeah remember the last CF that was a "5 tool player" and that was "special?" Yeah I figued someone was going to say it in this thread, so it might have well been me

I'd do this trade right away especially if we can lock up Pierre long term.

I don't see the point of using previous failures as a reason to say a current prospect will not succeed.
