Big Z not batting? I'd put him in the 2 spot.

All spring training games now have a DH.

It's going to be curious to see how this affects the pitchers when they do bat in the regular season. Given how bad many Cubs pitchers have been at laying down sac bunts, I wonder if they could use the practice.

It makes sense though. A coach wants to analyze as many at bats that matter as possible, especially when you have a camp full of hungry kids waiting to prove themselves.

I'm sure that teams are setting aside extra work for bunting (at least I hope).

Z doesn't need the sac bunt. He rips triples. 8)

I definitely think it makes sense overall. It's just interesting in the Cubs case because they've had that trouble, and they've talked about stressing fundamentals.

Ah...here's the link. It's in a story in regards to the Giants wanting a DH for Bonds.

Link.

The Giants thought it was possible National League clubs would grant permission this spring for Bonds to DH at their home park, even if the opposing club wanted its pitchers to hit.

"It'd be unusual, but it could happen," said Bobby Evans, Giants director of player personnel.

Yet, according to Roy Krasik, senior director of baseball operations for Major League Baseball, there will only be one set of rules.

"There is some misunderstanding out there," said Krasik, who sent out a second e-mail to clubs late Wednesday. "The rule is both clubs have to agree to apply the DH or not. If both teams agree to use the DH, it's the prerogative of each club to use the DH or not. We don't want two sets of rules. So if a team uses a DH, the other team can use another pitcher as a DH, if they wish, but not the pitcher that's starting that game."

It appears both clubs must agree to a DH for it to be used in a NL park.

One hour to go...and I'm so ticked that I have a class to teach this afternoon (though, they're typing research papers so I'm not doing much teaching), because I so wanna hear Pat say, "Chicago Cubs baseball is on the air!"

I'll have to wait to hear that, but at least I'll get to listen to the pregame show.
