I didn't see this posted anywhere, so I thought it could be a sign of good news.

The past couple of springs we haven't had much, and this looked good to me.

Chicago says Prior will pitch in an exhibition game in early March, perhaps the second time through the rotation. Pitching coach Larry Rothschild said Prior is still in line to start during the team's first regular-season series in Cincinnati.

Didn't Priors elbow problems exist before he arrived at camp the last couple of years as opposed to happening in camp?

The opening series is a 2-gamer with a day in between.

Cincy really can't be looking forward to that.

He threw again today. What's even better is that it looks like Miller isn't too far behind Wood.

This could be bad or good.

Nah.....that's too negative even for me

I think Jon meant it in a positive way.

How's it bad? b/c it pushes Williams/Rusch out of the rotation? I like Rusch too, but Miller is way better than Williams (if he's healthy). Personally, I'd like to show Maddux and Rusch the door and start miller and williams.

or maybe you mean miller's health isn't great so wood may be a ways off. :? i give up, lol.

Yeah. I believe I read the other day that Rothschild was impressed with how well Miller has been doing. He said that he could probably throw off the mound right now but they're going to stick with the conservative plan. Probably a bit of an exaggeration, but as of right now, it's looking rather optimistic for the pitching staff.

Personaly I think Rich Hill is a better option than Rusch.

Id love to see:

Zambrano

Prior

Wood

Maddux

Hill

If Hill stinks then use Williams or Rush, but I think those 3 are interchangeable unless Williams weight loss and mind set have changed him a great deal over the offseason.

the other question will be how effective each will be?

Impossible to say, of course. At least they are both pitchers who have had success in the league.

im thinking that between prior, wood and miller we have the 2 and 3 spots locked, but that it will take all 3 of them to do iit(#1 spot of course being Z)4&5 spots we have maddux, williams and hill...rusch can trim the ivy for all i care...7 men, 5 spots

I think that was true last year, but two years ago it was his achilles tendon that was bothering him when camp started, and I believe his elbow problems started during camp.

If Miller is healthy, he'll be good. He has a pretty good track record when healthy.

I hope Woody doesn't rush it and does what the Drs. have told him to do. I'd rather have him ready a little later than for a couple of games early and gone for the season because he went too fast.

The good news continues. According to Bruce Miles, Link, Wood threw 20 more pitches from a mound on Tuesday.

Another day: Right-hander Kerry Wood threw 20 pitches from the mound Tuesday as he continues his rehab from shoulder surgery. Saturday, Wood threw 10 pitches.

That is GREAT news.

and heres my $.02 on what the rotation should be...

Z

Prior

Wood

Williams

Maddux

Aside from a massive amount of injuries, is there any way that Angel makes this team?

I don't think Guzman makes the team out of spring training. There are too many pitchers ahead of him in the competition for a rotation spot. Guzman has to prove he can be healthy.

you know i was thinking about that as well- conventional wisdom says he starts in AAA but what if he dazzles this spring? Wuld the Cubs be more willing to take extra time with Wood and Miller? If Guzman regains form and proves to be healthy things could get very interesting. My guess is AAA no matter what, but its fun to think about

Exactly, Guzman will likely go to AA at this stage. He hasn't had a full season yet healthy and will have to do so to have a shot at the majors. Spring Training just proves how talented he really is (which they already know) and the regular season will prove how healthy he can be. I think the Cubs are pleased by his Spring performance that the numerous arm injuries have not had much permanent damage rather than fighting for a 25 man spot.
