It's hard not to love Dempster. The guy has a great demeanor and is a good personality.

I can forsee him having Izzy-like success in the closer role.

I like the fact he's a little crazy...that's gotta keep hitters from digging in against him. Kind of like in Bull Durham after he hit the bull...

I really hope so. I just really hope he doesn't pull a Dan Kolb.

At least we have Eyre and Howry to step in if Dempster tanks. It's not ideal, but at least we have a couple fallback options this year.

The big difference that i see is that Dempster strikes people out. About a guy an inning, IIRC. Kolb couldn't get anyone to swing and miss, so it made his job a lot tougher.

From the spring training pictures, his stomach looks a little Kolbish. That bothers me.

He was like that last season too and did just fine. I don't expect last year's save % numbers, but as long as he doesn't pull a Hawkins, I'll be more than satisfied.

I have a lot of faith in Dempster and i'm not too worried if he struggles we have Howry, Eyre, Ohman,Wuertz, that all have the stuff to close.

You forgot Williamson in that group. Except for Howry, I think he'd be the one to close over all those other relievers.

JH didn't do a good job at all on the outfield, but even an average Eyre and Howry plus the other guys should equal to one of the better bullpens in the majors this year.

I think Wuertz could be closer material if he were ever thrown into the role.

Dempster quickly became one of my favorite Cubs last year. I especially enjoyed his broadcasting from the dugout during a national telecast (I believe on Fox).
