I change my mind I didn't realize Carlos had such a bad year. Bay in Lf, Edmonds in Cf, and Pujols in RF. Hes to good not to put in the lineup.

Come on people, none of this shuffling around crap. This isn't put together the baddest fantasy team by switching positions.

For example, I have more love for Adam Dunn than most people but Albert is clearly the best first baseman. That doesn't mean I stick one of them in the outfield.

To be fair, I forgot Dunn was moving to 1B.

To be fair, I didn't care that he was moving to first. :P

I think you do care. But, you don't want to admit it.

I think it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Are you trying to put together a predicted 2006 NL-C all star team by the position they are going to play this year?

Or are you trying to put together the best possible team using players form the NL-C at positions where they are capable of playing?

Both are valid questions.

When you vote for "All Stars", you vote for the best at each position, don't you?

Based on that, it HAS to be Pujols at first base.

Depends on if I go by career or last season's numbers. Based on last season, Lee has just as much claim to firstbase as Pujols on this list.

When does all-star voting start? Better get going Vance!

I'll be on top of it again this year.

Sorry i just re-read your post and noticed that you basically made my point

You can definately make this claim based only on last year's performance, but I think the majority of people would agree that Pujols is the better player based on their entire careers.

D-Lee's OPS by Year (throwing out 97 when he only had 54 AB's)

1998- .732

1999- .588

2000- .875

2001- .820

2002- .872

2003- .888

2004- .860

2005- 1.080

Pujols' OPS by Year

2001- 1.013

2002- 0.955

2003- 1.106

2004- 1.072

2005- 1.039

I think I'd vote for the best player at that position. I'm not sure you can make a solid case that Lee is the better player.

If Lee puts up numbers equal to last season, I think his edge defensively does make him the best player. Has Lee been the best player over the course of their careers? No.

That's why it is imperative to know what we're basing it on. Is it last season? Then Lee is at first over Pujols. Is it predictive? In that case, I'd probably have to go with Pujols since I'm a big proponent of three-year averages. Is it career? Well if it is, then Pujols again...but if this is career, then everyone should have Maddux as the number one starter because none of these guys has had the career that Greg has.

I think it's pretty hard to argue Weeks is the best 2B in the div based on one mediocre 1/2 season. I'm not saying he won't be the best, but I need to see him produce.

I based mine on who I though was going to have a better 2006. I picked Pujols because I think Lee's numbers wont be quite as good this year as last year. But I think Pujols could easily have better numbers this year then last.

But I think Pujols could easily have better numbers this year then last.

easily? I would argue that there's no way that's going to be "easy."

I only said easily because last year was stastically his 2nd or 3rd best year so that its not out of the question for him to do better because he already has.

It's not based on "career" in my opinion. It's based on who you'd want as your first baseman RIGHT NOW. Given the choice of picking Lee or Pujols, I think everybody outside of Chicago would take Pujols.

Heck, even if you base it on last season, you'd probably want Pujols (based on Win Shares).

Pujols actually had slightly higher Win Shares, which takes defense into account. You can use other measures that favor Lee, but there was no clear-cut favorite, in my opinion.

Such as H, 2B, HR, BA, SLG, OPS for hitting and F%, assists and Zone Rating for fielding...

weird how much arguing is going on here when basically everyone agreed that pujols is the superior player but lee had a better season

All of which are figured into the Win Shares stat that I've already mentioned.
