After watching his awful, awful performance today, I take back everything good I said about France if Jean-Alain Boumsong gets a WC roster spot.

Boumsong got a spot. Also, out of the 4 good young defenders I named (Mexes, Silvestre, Christianval and Zebina), only one got a roster spot.

I will now bet against France.

Let's see how long their scoreless streak gets extended to in WC play.

It's at 270 minutes right now :D

I'm gonna be in Hamburg during the games, so I really look forward to seeing the experience. I'm not going to any games however, just want to see the scene.

Deutschland! Deutschland Uber Alles!

I'm jealous. Enjoy it-there's nothing like it in the world...

They'll forfeit at halftime of their first game.

In other news, Barcelona and Arsenal face off in the Champions League final tomorrow afternoon(2:45 EST).

They just reported on SportsCenter that one of the referees got pulled from the match because a picture was printed in a newspaper where the guy was wearing a Barcelona jersey.

:x - Someone offered me (indirectly) tickets to this game, which would have been quite the event, but then retracted the offer when they realised we were actually planning to go, and how we were doing it.

I was not amused. I fancy Paris in the Springtime.

I feel bad that i'm getting to go and all you guys are such die-hard soccer fans....I hardly care at all about the games going on, but just the event. Ich werde da viel Bier trinken!

I'd rather someone was there to enjoy the games (or even just the atmosphere) than a lot of the people who follow the English national team. I'm a resolute international football neutral, so its always a big festival for me at World Cup time.

Something i've noticed about Europe...your plane flights are cheap as hell. I have a flight from London to Berlin, roundtrip, that is booked for like 40 pounds.

Yeah, some of them are... especially in advance. Makes for spectacular short-breaks. I think I might have done that London - Berlin myself in the past. Its a lovely city.

It's slightly tempered by the fact that transportation to the airports in London is ridiculously expensive.

So FIFA's new rankings came out today. If I'm not mistken, the US has not played a match since the last batch came out. If they have, they won it, but I can't remember. Anyway, the new rankings have Mexico ahead of us at #4, and we're tied with someone at #5.

Now, even I think we're too high at #5. But, unless FIFA is moving every one of Mexico's WC games to the Azteca, there is no universe that exists where Mexico should be ranked higher than us.

Ooh, good thing I decided to delay my shower by a few minutes.

I forgot to TiVo the game today. I hope ESPN replays it.

Looks like they'll replay it at 11:30 central tonight on ESPN2.

No way 1 goal stands, with them down a man with this much time left.

Still impresive they were able to score at all. That goes to show how dangerous set-piece opportunities are in soccer.

Yeah I agree I think Barca will get one. They just hit one off the post.
