This is incredibly simple. My love of the Cubs trumps all other sports-related issues.

If I could be guaranteed just ONE Cubs World Championship, for all I care MJ could have been paired in the Pacers' backcourt with Reggie Miller for 12 years, making choke signs in tandem to the UC and Chicago Stadium throng.

Thats tough. I, like ND, wish i was born earlier. By the time I was old enough to realize just how good jordan was, It was 95/96 or so and He only had about two years left. But at the same time, A cubs WS...wow. Where is the "both" answer.... :x

The best part of that season was that they won in Minnesota in week 1, then proceeded to blow 11 second half leads and 1 second half tie in the next 13 games, before they eventually just gave up and let themselves be completely destroyed in the last two games. It was a sad thing to watch.
I saw two positives about that season. First, it made the brass realize Seifert wasn't the right coach and they got Fox. Second, it put them in a position to draft Peppers.

I think they're record that season is probably more misleading than almost any team ever. As you mentioned, they were competitive in just about every game until the last couple; they just couldn't catch the one break needed to get over the hump. It didn't surprise me one bit that they improved by six games the next season.

If you are not a Bulls/basketball fan, you probably shouldn't vote in this thread because nobody cares what you think.

BTW - If I was a Cubs fan this would be an easy NO vote. I <3 MJJ.

Bad teams never do. See Green Bay: 2005

Nope, although no one can argue MJ's greatness, the reason I'm saying no is because it was amazing to see a team I cheer for dominate so long. I am a Bulls fan, not an MJ fan.

In the 7 years since the dynasty ended the 4 Chicago teams I care about have combined for:

5 playoff appearences (1 Cubs, 2 Bears, 1 Blackhawks, 1 Bulls - .71 per year)

9 playoff wins (6 Cubs, 2 Bulls, 1 Blackhawks - 1.8 per appearence)

1 playoff series win (2003 Cubs - 0.2 per appearence)

0 championship round appearences

0 championships

Pretty pathetic run, and I'd still take those years to have what we had from 91-98. Think about how many cities would die to have 1 title, much less to have a dynasty and one of the best players in the game all time play for you (I can think of Seattle and Cleveland off the bat)

Actually, the Cubs have made the playoffs twice since MJ's last game as a Bull. The 1998 season which resulted in the Cubs getting the wild card came a few months after the Bulls final championship.

Yeah yeah, I didn't count that because their season started when MJ was still a Bull, but also because I wanted to pad my "pathetic" stats.

Edit: Also because techincally Phil, MJ, Pip and co. didn't start leaving until January 1999 because of the NBA lockout.

MJ didn't actually retire until January of 1999, so I accept UMFan's numbers.

For a Cubs world championship, or solely for personal amusement, I would gladly have the NBA disbanded and all its arenas sold to Iran.

I don't think I could have said it better myself, but I'll try:

If I thought it would get me a Cubs championship I'd build a time machine, travel back to the 1890s, and burn down the Springfield, Massachusetts YMCA where Naismith invented basketball.

Theres nothing that can compete with winning 6 titles, he's the greatest basketball player ever. I want the cubs to win the world series sometime in my lifetime, but to throw 6 NBA titles away for it no thank you!!!!

The one Chicago team I don't care about is the Bulls. I got next to no enjoyment out of their success, other than good excuses for parties. I have a theory that their astronomical success actually was a hindrance to other Chicago teams because fans weren't that anxious to demand championships from the other teams.

Of course, the Bears, Blackhawks and Cubs probably would have all sucked either way, but I like to comfort myself with these stupid theories.
