Interesting mapping of plate coverage... looking at how much better (or worse) than league average hitters are at turning pitches in a specific location into hits:

The good:

and the Ugly:

I'm shocked. I've believed for so long that CPatt was vastly superior to Poo Holes. I'm crushed right now.

You cannot compare Pujols to Patterson. Its like comparing apples to oranges.

no, its like camparing apples to apples that before they were ripe looked really good and then before they got a chance to ripen were ripped from the vine, were told for 2 solid years that the WERE oranges and then were smashed between the but cheeks of a fat hairy guy named Bubba and then left out in the sun to rot.

Look at the upper 1/3 of Patterson's graph.

Not only is he well below league average at hitting the ball, but that is where he strikes out frequently.

I like these graphs.

I'd like to see these charts on D. Lee. 2005 and a couple years back, I'd like to see if he did fix the whole in his swing.

That was what I was thinking about as I looked at them, actually.

I'd wouldn't eat any apples that grew on vines personally.

We must be looking at different upper thirds then, because on the graph I am looking at he is just about league average if not slightly above in most of the upper third.

The only box that matters is the one right in the middle. That is the strike zone.
