How about Kerry Collins if Oakland releases him to take on Culpepper?

I've never liked Collins, even when he had his decent seasons. He's a 70-something rated QB, he throws INTs up the whazzoo and I don't know if he's ever completed 60% of his passes. I think he'll be moderately expensive, looking for a starting job, and not friendly to young QBs taking his time.

I think he could be a decent backup QB, but I don't have interest in him being the Bears' backup QB. I'd rather they spend their money on other positions. I won't complain if they sign him, but I think it would be a misappropriation of funds.

I agree.

Brian Griese was cut by the Bucs tonight. If he would accept a #2 role I would love to have him backing up Rex. Griese is far from excellent, but he limits his turnovers, has a decent arm, and for the most part he wins. He had the Bucs 5-1 last year before his season-ending injury.

Panthers re-sign DeShaun Foster for three years. No real bearing on the Bears, and I'm lukewarm about the signing.

Never hurts to have too many Bruins on your team (no matter their health status).

The buzz is that the Bears are interested and talking to:

Josh McCown

David Givens

Kenny Wright

and of course EL.

For EL...

The two sides are discussing a deal of five or six years, believed to be valued in excess of $20 million.

I heard the most insane thing about McCown. He says he's looking for a starting job off the bat. How ridiculous is that? What has Josh freaking McCown accomplished in the NFL to warrant a guaranteed starting position?

With respects to the McCown camp, they should be begging on their knees for a chance to compete for a spot on the Bears, a division-winning team which McCown has no idea what it's like to play for...

he had 2 games last year in which he threw for almost 400 yards so they'll probably be selling that. i think he's ready to become a pretty good starter in the NFL.

Jim Miller threw for 400 yards a couple times, too. So have a bunch of other guys nobody remembers. Shall we hand them guaranteed starting jobs, too? Or would it be more wise to ask someone who hasn't won a thing in this league to earn his position?

I vote the latter.

woah, you need to calm down. so his camp is shopping him as a starter, big deal. don't do something you'll regret over it.

McNown could and would start for Detroit

If you're talking about Cade, he couldn't start for my little brothers 5th grade pop warner team.

I think he's talking about Josh McCown.

They still need a #2 WR, they need to look at Antonio Bryant or David Givens.

Personally, they're better pure WRs than Randle-EL, who adds value in the return game.

If not them, then Josh Reed or Jabar Gaffney.

Not a guy that targeted by the Bears, but Edge just signed with Arizona....

Yeah what's the deal with that? Last team I expected him to sign with.

Great signing for the Cardinals -- they already have two great wide outs in Boldin and Fitzgerald, but struggled to run the ball much. They should have a much more balanced attack in '06 and if they improve their defense enough, they should be able to challenge Seattle in the NFC West.

So Randle El signs with Washington who just signed Lloyd. I thought part of the reason he wnated to get out of Pitt is because he didn't get enough passes. Now he might be #2, but he has Lloyd right there with him. Still way too much for his caliber. I think Berrian or Bradley can have better years regardless.

The Bears need to draft a TE first round. Then a corner.

We needed Randle El I know his pure receiving skills were not that great, but we need someone who can return. Im sick of not getting any return yardige after kicks.

Randle El is this year's football equivalent to Carl Pavano. He was in the right place at the right time and cashed in. It makes no sense to pay big money to a guy that has not shown he can be a consistent impact player just because he happens to be the best free agent available at a position of need.

But he was from Chicago. He was meant to come back. Not really. But that TD pass he threw in the Superbowl was a better pass than Grossman could have made. 40 yarder on the run, perfect placement. And he could have been the third string QB. He couldn't have been worse than Orton. But not for 30 million.
