Remember, these people get PAID to write about baseball.

I think it's a shame that Albert Belle only got 7% of the vote. He may not be a HOFer, but he's more of a HOFer than many people ahead of him on that list.

Dawson saw his total rise to 61%. I still think it's a long shot that he'll ever get in, but he is gaining in his support each year. He has hope. I'm starting to think Blyleven and Rice may never garner the support needed for election.

Congrats to Sutter, but I still think Goose was the better pitcher.

Sutter pitched one more year in Chicago and put up better numbers. The only thing that would get him in as a Cardinals, I'd imagine, would be the '82 world series.

Hey guys, first time poster here. Congrats to Bruce Sutter.

I really hate that Andre Dawson didn't make the cut. Even worse, Jim Rice got more votes than him. Do any of you think that Rice has a better chance than Dawson? Does anyone think Rice was a better player?

i think that they're similar players. rice was better offensively, dawson better defensively. i think rice is more deserving.

let the debate begin...as a Cub or as a Card?

No question it should be as a Cub. While a Cub he:

- developed, perfected and practically invented his patented split finger fast ball.

- pitched more seasons and innings than while with any other team.

- won the Cy Young award.

- had his lowest ERA - a microscopic 1.25 in 1977

- never gave up a post season hit, let alone a post season run.

Is Walt Weiss's mother a writer?

I really wish these votes would be made public so that these people will have to explain why they voted the way they did.

Rice was a better hitter than Dawson. Dawson was better on defense. I can't see how anyone would vote for Dawson, yet pass on Rice.

A case could be made for Sutter going in as a Cardinal or a Cub, but I think as a Cub would be most fitting.

Sutter played in MLB for 12 seasons. 5 as a Cub; 4 as a Cardinal.

He was an All-Star four of the five seasons as a Cub, compared to only twice as a Cardinal.

He won the Cy Young award as a Cub, though he did finish in the top five three of his four years with the Cardinals.

He won a WS with the Cardinals which might factor into the decision as well.

He led the NL in saves twice as a Cub; three times as a Cardinal.

Judging him on ERA and WHIP, he seemed to have better seasons as a Cub than he did as a Cardinal. I'm sure it could go either way, and this one might be one where the HOF consults the player for his opinion.

I'd go Cub, but it's hard to argue if the HOF chooses Cardinal.

He'll go in as a Cub, but I think a lot of writers voted for him because he "revolutionized" the closer role simply because he was the first to be used as a modern closer. I give that credit to his manager. His numbers just weren't good enough.

Don't forget that he came up through the Cubs' system.

It's not hard for me to argue he should be a Cub. He had his best years with the Cubs and played more seasons for the Cubs.

The same argument goes for Maddux only in the opposite direction. He played more seasons for the Cubs but had his best seasons with the Braves, he should go in as a Brave.

If Sutter goes in as a Cardinal it would be a travishamokery. :x

That's REALLY a tough choice. He has similar number with both teams. The Cubs gave him his start, and allow him to flourish as a closer (are we talking about the Cubs allowing someone to develop :-k ) but he did when the World Series with the Cards. And Sutter DID bring Durham to Chicago, for what it's worth. Opinion is, I REALLY hope Sutter goes in as a Cubs.

Beisdes....wasn't it Sutter who gave up Ryno's two homerun is that EPIC game back in the early 80s?
