According to the Baltimore Sun, the Orioles are no longer the favorites to acquire Corey Patterson from the Cubs.

Following the reports that the Orioles were close to acquiring Patterson, several teams contacted the Cubs and got into the mix, says the Sun. The Rangers, Mariners and Red Sox are among the teams that were previously reported to have interest in Patterson. If the Mariners acquired him, it would free up Jeremy Reed to be traded, probably to Boston. Jan. 8 - 4:17 am et

Any clue who we might be targeting from Boston?

Think AA prospects. I doubt we can get better at the moment.

Put me down for thinking that Corey goes to Seattle for a PTBNL, and then Reed goes to Boston for Arroyo.

That sounds about right. Talk about playing second-fiddle in a trade, geez/

Well, if the Cubs are backing away from Baltimore, it must be that the other teams are willing to offer more.

I have no idea what we'll get for him. I really doubt it is much of value, but we may get someone from another team that is similar to Patterson- someone who needs a change of scenery.

That wouldn't surprise me at all! The only hang up I hear is that Boston would prefer getting rid of Clement rather than Arroyo - Bronson gives them a guy who can pitch alot of innings and start as well as relieve.

Patterson + $$$ for Reed

maybe they'll thrown in felix hernandez too

:lmao:

Honestly though, Seattle would be a good fit for patterson. The huge dimensions would allow him to use his speed very well on both offense and defense.

He's gotta figure out how to make the bat hit the ball before he can take advantage of huge dimensions.

I think Texas would be the best place for him. He could put up Soriano like numbers in that hitter's haven.

no he wouldn't

Didn't say he would. Said he could.

why not? Because if anyone actually thought he could put up Soriano numbers anywhere, why would the cubs trade him? Texas isn't that much of a difference than Wrigley.

Most people believe patterson is the classic "Change of scenery" type of guy.

Thats why people think he could do something somewhere else.

wow, then you guys must be pretty pissed to lose a guy with 40 homer/110 RBI potential for a mid-level prospect.

I don't think that he's anything more that a 25/80 guy at best

nobody said soriano's potential, they said soriano's production in Texas, which is bloated by a stadium closer to coors than wrigley. I wouldn't want soriano or patterson on my team.

neither would I, i just dispute the notion that rawaction said about Patterson putting up anything close to the numbers Soriano put up in any stadium.

Neifi could put up Soriano numbers if he played in Texas. But in all likelihood it just isn't going to happen.

Soriano in Texas

280/324/484

268/309/512

Patterson has put up

298/329/511

266/320/452

in years past. He already has put up numbers close to what Soriano has done. all in a more pitcher friendly park.
