what about restovich do you guys like? I see nothing that makes me think he is a big league caliber ballplayer?

Very good minor league numbers at age appropriate levels, just entering his prime, and has been serviceable against LHP in his big league time.

Okay, now that we have that out of the way, This is really sad. I love Augie Ojeda to death, but seriously, why in the blue hell are we even thinking about possibly maybe giving them a chance?

I think it will be very interesting to see what happens if Restovich seriously outplays Grissom in spring training. We'll see who is really in charge.

Edit: I didnt know Restovich was already 27.

The reactino to Augie is insane. I hated him too, but he ain't touching this roster.

Agreed.

I do have fond memories of Baylor using him as a "defensive replacement" at 3B. Ah, the good ol' days.

It's minor league contracts.

Calm down.

I'm not sure what this means.

I think he means that some people are being a little over dramatic.

Yes, you guys are instantly thinking that they are going to have a spot on the main roster which isn't the case.

Easy the reins on the saddle a little bit. Nothing wrong with Restovich or Ojeda playing in Iowa and Grissom sitting on the pine in Chicago and batting against lefties.

No one did, but it seems like some of them are assuming the worst with all these "bad" players on the roster.

Can you blame us? Honestly. Can you blame Cub fans for thinking the worst when old and/or crappy players who have no business near this team are signed?

No, I can't blame you at all. I know how Baker uses veterans more than the new bloods.

Because he's about the same size as Darren Baker?

Hendry catches another Pokemon! Augiemon...return!

Does this Restovich play defense and is it any good? What postions? I have a feeling that may be the big difference between Grissom and Restovich. I'd love to have a guy on the bench that can come to the plate and hit a home run.

Also, what worries me is if Baker/Hendry think Murton is going to need a defensive replacement. Again, if Grissom proves he can play there is no doubt in my mind he gets the 25th spot over Restovich.

I like the Restovich move. I'm surprised he was available for a minor league deal only, I wonder if he was considered a victim of the roid crackdown, since he put up solid minor league numbers and followed them up with good major league numbers before a recent decline.

The guy seems more than capable of .280/.350/.475 type numbers. I'm not sure he's a good comparison to Dubois, past the surface. For one, he's got twice as many pro at bats. He was a 2nd round draft pick (I assume out of HS, since he debuted in rookie ball at 19), while Dubois went to college. Plus he's done a heck of a lot more than Jason in the majors. Dubois was a "take a shot with him" guy who put up good minor league numbers but was a bit old, breaking into the majors at 25/26. Restovich has been considered a pretty good prospect for a good amount of time, and made his major league debut at 23 after debuting in AA at 22 (compared to Dubois at 24). Dubois has a little more raw power, while he also strikes out a bit more frequently without offsetting it with more walks.

Anyway I like taking the chance on this guy as a potential platoon partner with Jones. And I'd hate to see management take Grissom even if he has a better spring training. The only reason they should take MG over MR is if Restovich is a shell of his former self or he breaks a leg.

Gives a better massage to I hear. More of a Swedish guy, while Macias, my sources tell me, was all into those heated rocks and new-age-pure-moody-enya music. Even freaked Dusty out.

Good God. You want Hendry fired because he signed a guy to play SS in the minor leagues?

You've read how many posts on this site and you honestly believe that's the ONLY reason people want him fired?

Angel Echevarria must be about 63 years old, having spent 44 of thos years in about 19 different stints with the Cubs' minor league system.

I think Baylor wanted him called up once in a September because he had something like 13 homers in AAA.
