(1) Corey Koskie to the Angels, Adam Kennedy to the Cubs and Todd Walker plus a prospect to the Blue Jays. No cash would be exchanged in the 3-way deal.

Angels would play Koskie at 3B/DH, and move recently acquired Edgardo Alfonzo to 2B; Cubs would play Kennedy at 2B and bat him 2nd behind Pierre; Walker would play some 2B and DH. The prospect would be low level.

(2) Todd Walker, Corey Patterson and Rich Hill to Seattle for Raul Ibanez and Jeremy Reed; Reed and Jerome Williams would then be dealt to Boston for Matt Clement.

Ibanez would play LF, and Murton would platoon with Jones.

Take it with a grain of salt.

If the Cubs wanted Clement, why wouldn't they have just re-signed him when we had the chance? Is Jim feeling nostalgic for the 03 team?

no disrespect intended, but i will take it with a grain of salt. i can't see JH dealing hill, walker and patterson and only ending up with ibanez and clement. frankly, i think it's likely jwill will put up better numbers than clement next season, and at a fraction of the cost.

If that's the case, bring back Randall Simon!

I'd do that trade. Hill is the only one who has any value currently. Walker and Patterson, may play great, but they have no trade value now.

Weren't the Cubs eyeing Kennedy last year??? Kennedy seems like a Hendry guy. He can hit (.300 BA), steal bases (19), and has a real good glove. The only thing Walker tops Kennedy in is power.

One additional point (non-Cubs related) regarding the 3-way deal rumored between the Angels, Jays and Cubs:

When the Jays traded for Overbay and Glaus, it basically gave them 5 players (Hillenbrand, Hinske, Koskie, Overbay and Glaus) for 3 positions: 3B, 1B and DH. It is believed that none of these players can play OF. That being the assumed case, my source suggested that if Koskie can be moved AND if either Hillenbrand or preferably Hinske can be moved for prospects, it would free up enough money for the Jays to go after Jeff Weaver. One additonal 3-way deal that has been discussed by Toronto is to move Ted Lilly and Hinske to Texas, Hank Blalock to the White Sox, and Brandon McCarthy and an OF prospect to the Jays.

I don't know that Kennedy has a "real good glove," but he is better defensively than Walker.

He would be a pretty drastic offensive downgrade, though. I don't know why the Cubs would do this deal, but then again, I don't know why Walker is third on the 2B depth chart.

Kennedy, offensively, kinda looks like a poor man's Twalk. I think Walker straight up for him is overpaying, but a better deal than Walker and a prospect.

if we trade for jeremy reed, can't we just keep him and send pierre someplace else?

stupid cobs

I would rather keep Reed and trade Pierre as well. He's going to be one of the better leadoff hitters for the next 10 years.

Based on what? We finally have a true leadoff hitter and this board doesn't like him.

1) Lateral move. Not much point in making that deal unless you REALLY hate Walker or very much overvalue Kennedy. Whatever.

2) Hmm, re-sign Clement OR trade Walker, Patterson, Hill, and Williams (half of LaTroy) for Ibanez and him?

I'll take them both with a grain or two.

I was really excited when I saw that we were going to get Reed.

Well, 1st off, I won't be baited into some useless group think of NSBB vs. rest of the world type argument. If you're going for that angle, try it for someone who enjoys wasting everyone's time. If you're not, I'll apologize.

2nd, as far as why I'd rather have Reed than Pierre, he has a higher ceiling than Pierre's current level of production. Pierre will likely outproduce Reed this year, but not to the point where I wouldn't want the player who will likely improve to heights that Pierre has never seen, much cheaper and much further away from FA than Pierre.

3rd, why I think Reed will be one of the best future leadoff hitters in the game; Reed has a perfect line drive swing, a great strike zone recognition, great work ethic, above avg. speed, and will only improve.

Hey, don't forget that we'd have both of the Reed brothers in the line up at the same time in 2008.

His little brother needs to hit more like his older brother did during his ascent to the majors.
