Not to be a jerk, but has anyone from Cubs mgmt EVER mentioned Encarnacion by name? Or is this just typical Cub fan pessimism?

I wouldn't call it typical pessimism. Encarnacion fits the Hendry model to a T. Typical pessimism would be saying if the Cubs traded for Tejada he'd come here and suck, or if the Cards got JJones, he'd magically be awesome.

And I do believe there have been rumors that the Cubs looked into trading for him in the past.

What of Hendry' man love for Preston Wilson? I'm thinking if Jones is off the market, Wilson may be the next target.

I think Wilson's value has dropped too low for even Hendry to consider him a viable option, unless Hendry is bargain shopping, which I don't see him taking that low risk/potentially low reward we'd see with Wilson.

Anyone read this linked blog from mlbtraderumors? It's a blog about Cedeno. It's the way I felt about him before jumping on his bandwgn. It definitely makes me feel even more uneasy about 2006. And it definitely makes me hope we can get our hands on Tejada in order to minimize the question marks.

http://1060west.blogspot.com/2005/12/why-it-cant-be-ronny-cedeno.html

That's a well written post, but there's a couple things worth pointing out. Obviously, Cedeno didn't play a full season at AAA, and there are some sample size issues. But pointing out his AAA numbers and comparing them to his career numbers is a bit deceiving, as it ignores the progression that he's had the last few years. Also, while he probably justly doesn't lend credence to the "turning point" logic, it is worth mentioning that Cedeno himself has said that he has made adjustments in regards to hitting to all fields, and that's what he's attributed to his success since AA. His K/BB ratio has improved some since then, and his point about his SLG being low is also deceiving, since his batting average is so low. Cedeno will hit for an acceptable amount of power if his batting average is at a good level(.270-.290). Added on to the fact that he also pointed out that Cedeno is at least a year young for all the levels he played at, I think calling him a "questional prospect" along with Pie(which is even more laughable) is a bit of a stretch.

To add to what Goony is saying how many FA outfielders do you think are available? If you haven't noticed the market is dwindling and the amount of OFs right now is probably 2-4.

Well, Hendry did say he hoped to get a RF via trade. Maybe he has something cooking behind the scenes. I certainly didn't hear anything about this Sox trade ahead of time.

the way I see it. Hendry might overplay his here but it sure seems like the longer he waits the more value Jerome Williams and Rich Hill have. Cheap, above-average to average pitching is at a premium and their value can only increase as FA sign.

RF Jacque Jones, Twins

Dec. 13 -- Jones could be close to signing a three-year, $20 million deal with the Cardinals, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. As the Cubs are still in need of a right fielder, one name that could be on GM Jim Hendry's radar is Jones.

I just want to go on record and say that I literally laughed out loud when I read that.

And he'll be like every other player that goes to the Cardinals and improve in every category while winning the gold glove. Stupid cardinals. ;)

LOL, nah not even the Cardinals will be able to work their magic on him. He'll still strikeout 140 times, never sniff a walk, and hit .240.

Has the Murton bandwagon ran out of gas already?? Why can't he pull off an .800 ops, if not more???

It's disappointing the Cubs didn't get another deal worked out during the winter meetings, but there's still time for a significant move or two. May have to wait for things to shake out w/ Manny first though, as he may be holding up several dominos.

Yeah, nice game plan Hendry seems to have this offseason.

I'm thinking someone casually mentioned to Jim after the winter meetings that he still doesn't have a RFer, which made Jim go , as he stormed out the door with the available free agent list in his hands.

When Preston Wilson is signed to play RF, he will dress up Wilson as if he was the guy they were targeting all along.

That's okay, we can always stick Neifi out there when Hendry can't find a taker for Todd Walker.

You've been given too much material to laugh at in the past month or so, anyways.
