  1. Gary Sinise and William Petersen seem die-hard and rather knowledgeable. Very non-hack.
  2. ...they limped home with a 20-30 record over their last 50.
  3. Objects in their mirror are closer than they appear.
  4. I'm sure he'll be very impressed.
  5. Who even thinks to put in a rule like that? Especially in a HS tournament  When I was stationed at MCAS Iwakuni, we played a modified fast pitch tournament in town with a rubberized ball. The championship game was tied at the end of seven innings and the umps told us to line up across the team from Japan. Not kidding, to play best-of-nine rock-paper-scissors to determine the champion. They won 5-4 and celebrated like the 1980 US hockey team.
  6. At first, I thought he just misspelled "rake".
  7. Don Kessinger (same birthday as me along with Lou Boudreau -- heard it growing up every July 17th on Wally Phillips)
  8. Mid 70's and the Lena Pony and Colt leagues are taking their annual trip, this time to County Stadium to see the Royals play the Brewers. Our busses arrived very early, so we're just standing around the parking lot, screwing off and pissing off the parents who were brave enough to chaperone. Who pulls up and gets out of their car, but Hank Aaron. For a good 15 seconds, he's 10 yards from me and no one else notices. I freeze and do absolutely nothing. Suddenly, a swarm of autograph seekers surrounds him, and I'm in "I got a rock" mode.
  9. So true. It is BY FAR the best sport to attend in-person. Not even close. In fact, I'm heading down to Raleigh right now to see the Hawks.
  10. Who would own them? Where would they play? Those are good questions, I was just spitballing. Certainly I'd think if the Cubs put it out there to the right people that they were taking proposals to move to the Carolina League they could find someone interested in putting a package together for them. Fredericksburg, VA is trying to build a stadium, but is having problems luring the Hagerstown Suns (So. Atlantic League Class A).
  11. I still consider the 7th Inning Stretch singing as cheesy Harry Caray White Sox schtick.
  12. I know a lot of Cub fans, both "meatball" and "intelligent". Not one of them dislikes Mark Prior. Dusty is an altogether different topic.
  13. This. Really don't want to go to work tomorrow. This and This. I never thought being bed ridden from total knee replacement last week would work out so well! Drinks, drugs, food delivered to me faithfully every four hours while I'm in front of the TV.

  15. The Scranton, PA area is now bankrupt in more ways than one.
  16. ESPN has leaked that Epstein did jump the gun by coming to a verbal agreement with Soler. Hoyer put the deal in writing and went to deliver it last Saturday. But since he believed the FedEx office was closed, it's still sitting in his refrigerator, so the Cubs are fine.
  17. Good to hear. I'm not a professional scout by any means, but Cespedes looks like a big and loopy swing in a body that has the potential to become big and lumpy.
  18. Then Dombrowski needs to step up, show ownership who's got the real baseball brain, and deal Turner and Castellanos for Garza. That'll show 'em!
  19. Consider yourself extremely lucky.
  20. What is to stop a team from posting a ridiculously high amount just to prevent the player from going to another team, then low-balling the offer because they never intended to spend that much on the player in the first place? Technically nothing, but bad-faith maneuvering would strain relationships between MLB and the Japanese. I imagine any team doing something like that would get a nasty-gram from the commissioner's office.
  21. Why is it that NSBB is filled with folks who believe the rest of the GMs are in a permanent "Do Me" pose, waiting to do the Cubs a favor? Hell, while we're at it, lets trade Pie, Murton and TWO lower level prospects for the better Miggy (Cabrera). Or a warm beer for Pujols. And if Hendry fails to do these moves, HE SUCKS!
  22. Yeah, that crap NEVER works. THE SKY IS FALLING, THE SKY IS FALLING!

  24. If the Cubs won the Series next season, Hendry would win a permanent place in Chicago Sports lore, and deservedly so. He could be assigned to the GM position for life as far as I'm concerned along with 110% retirement benefits when he wanted to step down.
