Garland and Dye for Abreu makes a ton of sense for the White Sox. A ton. McCarthy for Garland is no downgrade in the rotation, Abreu in RF is a huge upgrade. That lineup suddenly becomes a potential force.

Williams is the man, he's in the driver's seat for Tejada. He has Garland and McCarthy to dangle in front of Baltimore; Hendry has Williams and Hill. Gee, which would you pick?

Garland >> Williams

McCarthy > Hill

Sox rule. I am very envious.

He won't trade Garland and McCarthy. That would leave them thin in the pitching department.

it's probably one or the other.

Apparently the Sox have said that they won't have McCarthy pitching out of the pen, so that means something has to give...

If that's the case then what would Baltimore desire more? Garland for one year (or trade him mid-season for some more prospects) or Williams for a couple years?

Garland has the potential to net Baltimore more, both in the initial trade and at the trade deadline. Williams would be a good cheap arm that would be useful in a rebuilding mode.

I think a more important question would be, would Baltimore rather have Cedeno or Uribe. I say this because Baltimore is going to need a SS and it would make sense for the Sox/Cubs to send them one.

Mr. Levine says:

- Tejada needs to be dealt (if at all) within a week due to mkting concerns.

...

- The Cubs are in a good position with the young players they have to offer; the Sox and Cubs are going head-to-head on this one.

I don't quite understand the first point, can someone clarify? Are the "marketing concerns" regarding the O's (need to know who the face of the franchise is), the potential trading partners, or both?

Regarding the second: the period from late September 2005 until now has probably been my least favorite as a Cubs fan. This is just maddening, and it just keeps going...

Thanks Ryno and others for the summary & explication.

I can see it now. An OF of Murton, Pierre, and JJones.

I'd deal with it for an IF of Ramirez, Tejada, Walker, Lee. And a rotation of Prior, Zambrano, Wood, Maddux, Weaver.

According to Hoops (I think), Anaheim is one of the teams supposedly interested in Patterson.

I'm going to guess that he'll wind up traded for either Finley plus cash or Erstad plus cash. There may be a prospect included on each side.

It will be a sad end to the Corey Patterson era.

If the White Sox get Tejada, I'm gonna blame my actions on my neighbor's talking dog.

(Joking) Still, I'd be pretty mad.

Does the talking dog run the SABR department for the Cubs? :P

Oh you mean the guy who sits in the broom closet with the Apple IIe run by hamsters?

He was the genius who pointed out that Colorado Rocky Jeromy Burnitz had the 6th highest slugging percentage in 2004 among players with more than 120 strikeouts.

and where exactly will Erstad play? Not 1st, not CF. If they put him in RF it would be really stupid. That leaves LF. If they do that, they should be run out of town on a rail.

The bold part is the answerto your mkting question.

I'd imagine he'd be an extra guy, as he should be at this stage of his career. A few years too late, IMO.

Agreed. I can live with Kotsay in RF if Tejada is at short:

Pierre

Kotsay

Lee

Tejada

ARam

Murton

Barrett

Perez ( :pukel: )

OMG When I read Erstads name I puked a little bit in my mouth.

This offseason just keeps getting better and better...

Now Hendry can say...."Hey, I could have traded for Erstad!" after he signs Jones.

Trading Patterson for Finley would be the most pathetic thing the franchise has done in years. That is terrible. I can actually see Hendry do something so stupid just because Finley is a veteran and a lefty. He's damn old and his numbers regressed so bad he should think about retiring.

Cubs and Sox head to head for Tejada, huh? This could be interesting...

I'd have to believe the Sox have the edge simply because Tejada wants to play for a winner and the Cubs are perceived as possibly the most disappointing team of the past 2 years.

Unless they offer McCarthy, in which case we're sunk, and rightly so, do you think we have the edge being an NL team? Not to mention that Stockstill KNOWS our guys... thoughts?

What does Tejada have to say about what team he's traded to?

He doesn't. But, how ironic would it be for him to get traded to an organization that hasn't won a World Series in nearly 100 years? :D

*dons flame suit*

I would like Kotsay in our outfield. I think he'd be a great asset and a perfect #2 hitter.

Also, good to hear the Tejada thing might still be on? Although I think the Sox definitely have the advantage here....I guess I can hope. How about they can trade for Abreu if we can trade for Tejada? Sounds like a deal to me...

He can say plenty. He has already shown he is not shy about expressing himself. If he says he doesn't want to play for the Cubs then Hendry will not make the deal.
