He said the Cubs would probably send 5 players...Hill, KPat, Williams, Cedono, and Guzman to get it done.{quote]

shock: 5 players for Tejada? Levine must be higher then a kite in the sky. No way is Tejada WORTH 5 players. He isn't Bonds...or Pujols, ohree r Vlad, to which it would need to t5ake 5 players to get a trade done. Three very good young players or the Orioles adding Penn or Cabrera in the deal, would get it done. No need to overpay with 5 CHEAP players for a 1 EXPENSIVE player.

To be fair 1 of the 5 is Patterson.

If you think you are going to get Penn or Cabrera AND Tejada for 3 of those guys you are dreaming. Penn or Cabrera might be better than any of the players the Cubs are sending to Baltimore in that rumor.

That deal, today, doesn't look too bad. However, Guzman has the chance to make it look horrible. I wouldn't worry a lot about Hill and Williams since 1) we'll never see them, and 2) they are middle to back of the rotation guys. We know what we have with Corey, and Cedeno would be redundant. Guzman, on the other hand could change the look of this deal if he figures out how to stay healthy. If not, he's no great loss, either.

Shoulder injuries tend to be career ending for pitchers. Perhaps Guzman will make it, but I would take that chance.

What do the O's think of Gibbons? Looks to me like he's not too far from becoming a consistent 850-900 OPS guy. Judging by his K numbers, he makes a lot of contact. If he'd just be a little more patient and pad that BB total, he would become a very nice part of this "package". Not to mention it would keep Jones/Encarnacion/Wilson away from Wrigley.

Rumor out of Anaheim ~ Cabrera, Shields and minor league pitching prospect for Tejada.

That's not even close to what they supposedly were asking from us.

I forget the name of their pitching prospect, but considering Anaheim's superior minor league system, he's probably better than anything the Cubs are offering. Cabrera & Shields are nice pickups too.

I wouldnt call Cabrera a nice pickup when you consider his numbers and salary. It's very possible the prospect they were offering was top notch but they were asking for 2 of our top prospects as well as others. I think Cedeno can be better than Cabrera and much cheaper.

Other GMs hold Jim Hendry's feet to the fire because they know he's in a tight spot. It's basically extortion, but Hendry has no one to blame but himself.

Recent events also make it very clear that GMs around baseball value the Cubs prospects much MUCH lower than most folks here.

Time for a GM change, seriously. Clean house.

Agreed.

You have to remember baseball people think cabrera is good.

He's had a couple good season @ the plate, and is an excellent fielder (something not valued much here), and he steals bases (something not valued much here, as well).

Yes, let's fire a guy who actually got us finally competitive and a guy who netted us Ramirez, and Lee along with drafting Prior if I recall right.

Let's clean house on a team that's really close to being a playoff team (barring any injuries) because we had one bad year last year and are trying to fix the problems.

Anaheim's pitching prospects aren't anywhere near as good as their hitting prospects.

I say keep CPAT. CPAT is just as likely to hit .275+ next year as Cedeno, or even Murton for that matter, and we're most of us willing to let both of them start and get 500+ ABs next year. I get this feeling CPAT is going to rebound fairly well this year. Bat him 7th or 8th. With a team of Pierre, CPAT, Cedeno, Murton? and Lee we've got quite a bit of speed. And I think both Cedeno and Murton WILL hit .275+ next year too so they won't hurt us.

Pierre

Walker

Lee

Ramirez

Murton

Barret

Cedeno

CPAT

Cedono, CPAT, pitcher and Pierre. Thats a pretty fast run scoring 4 ABs. Think about it.

Yay, we are competitive, woo hoo. A team with a 100 million dollar payroll should be a hell of a lot better than just competitive. 1 bad year? We havent won 90 games in the past 3 years. We lucked into a playoff spot in 2003 because the rest of the division sucked. The Ramirex and Lee trades were nice trades, but thats 2 things good out of numerous things bad(Rusch signing, Neifi signing, keeping Macias for as long as we did, Alf signing, and the Sosa debacle of last year) those are just off the top of my head. Hendry does not deserve a free pass for making us a competitive team, and making 2 good trades. This year should be either put up or shut up, and so far he isnt putting up. Its still early and things can change but if he signs a Jones, Wilson, Payton, etc...to fix our RF hole then he should be gone.

Maybe, but Tejada isn't worth 5 guys. Besides Baltimore would rather have quality over quantity.

So right now you'd advocate standing ©pat? horrible pun, sorry.

CPAT has a chance to turn it around, but that chance greatly improves in a different uniform. His numbers are nowhere near what you'd need from a corner outfielder. Two unprovens in Murton and Cedeno could work out, or not. I'd like to see them start if we had a bonafide producer in RF. on the other hand, that above lineup leaves a lot of payroll open for acquring a solid starter or making a big move mid-season.

I take the proactive aproach- do the Tejada deal, but try to keep Williams or Guzman. Flip them a PTBNL if necessary.

Then make a trade for Floyd. Would Walker + Novoa + Ryu get it done if we take on all his salary? I guess it hinges on a Manny trade.

I was just going to say the same thing after reading that post.

Right. Lets see how CPAT hits in the second half of Winter Ball (Didn't I hear he was going to do that?) Hell, even let him go back to his wide sweeping swing maybe if he can still cut down on some of his K's, which I think came last year more from just being out of synch with his long time habits more than from an inability to hit the ball. He hit pretty well with that swing in 2003 and also 2004. Drill the strike zone into that kid, let him swing away and watch him become comeback of the year winner. RF solved.

If you have a $100MM payroll, and your team has gotten WORSE in every year of your tenure, then you are part of the problem and not part of the solution. Hendry needs to go. Now. And take his pet manager with him.

You were all aboard the Hendry "bandwagon" if I remember right... what happened to change your mind?
