Of course, we could not get Tejada and still wind up with Juan E., or Jacque Jones, or Preston Wilson (or, gulp, Corey Patterson) in right field...

Go for Miggy, and then it's more understandable if we have to settle in right field.

Since Baltimore was nice enough to take our disgruntled super-star Sammy Sosa last year for Jerry Hairston, I think it only right that we should return the favor in kind.

Tejada for Hairston straight up.

Not bloody likely.

I think either the Cubs will get Tejada within the next couple of days or the Angels or Astros will swoop in and get him in a week.

Tejada makes too much sense for the Cubs, but I'm beginning to think he'll be too expensive in players to acquire, to the point that our other big hole (RF) goes to some schlub. I'm thinking maybe Hendry should push this Lugo + Huff deal some more, the overall team balance would be better for the same expenditure in talent. And Hendry would have money left over to vie for another pitcher if he chooses, like Millwood.

I've cooled on the Huff/Lugo trade considering what Tampa wants in return. But, what I've always felt this offseason is that Tampa will want to get out from Huff's contract, and would probably move him for a lot less towards the back end of the offseason rather than paying him to play. They have so many options to take his place, not to mention what they could ask for in trade.

Lugo's demand has gotten ridiculous. I don't believe the "we were never offered Marte for Lugo" cry by Tampa. I think Marte was offered, but they tried to squeeze blood out of a turnip and Atlanta caught on.

All speculation on my part, of course. I'd love to have Tejada at SS. If you got Miggy, who played RF wouldn't be nearly as worrying as it currently is now.

I also think you could trade any and all of Walker, Hairston and Patterson, or trade each of them with a middle reliever (Novoa, Wuertz, Welly) for an up and coming power bat in RF. The Cubs are getting a bit thin in the prospect department, especially if they dealt for Miggy, but I also think they have enough guys from last years major league roster to move to fill RF. I'd still be hoping for Milton Bradley for that job.

Pierre, Bradley, Tejada, Lee, Ramirez, Murton, Barrett, Cedeno

Put the middle 3 any way you like. It's good!

I'll go on record as being in favor of sending Hill, Marshall, and Pie for Tejada. It's a lot of value, but I think we can get by doing that.

Seconded!

Oh yeah. A bird in hand is better than 2 in the bush. And well, this is a BIG bird.

I like having a thread with just news on this deal but its going to take weeks for this thing to go down.

Man, I must need sleep, because I read that wrong and was thinking "aren't you a little *too* excited about this trade opportunity?"

Since Fieta (sp) is with Baltimore now he knows what he wants from the Cubs. I think they would move pretty quickly if this is going to work.

I think the Angels have a haul of young guys and can then trade Cabrera back to Boston or The O's flip Cabrera to the Red Sox. Especially if the Angels want Manny....they now have a lot more to deal for him and even if they don't get Manny they still get an impact bat.

Houston has seen a lot of players get dealt while they waited for Clemens. I think they are going to get either Abreu or Tejada.

According to the Washington Post, it appears that Manny would accept a trade to Baltimore:

"If the Orioles decide to trade Tejada there certainly would be much interest, particularly from the Boston Red Sox, who seem eager to acquire the shortstop. A large obstacle to a trade with the Red Sox was removed on yesterday when a source close to outfielder Manny Ramirez said he would "absolutely" accept a trade to Baltimore."

"We're not spending...$55 million for a guy who hasn't won more than 12 games in a year. If that's what his criticism is based on, it just shows he wouldn't be a great general manager."

That doesn't change the fact that Baltimore will do the Ramirez for Tejada deal. 1: You don't trade a big level talent to a division (even tho, they would be getting a darn good player back), and if you do...make sure the Red Sox include Peplebon, Declarman, and/or Marte. 2: Baltimore wants nothing to do with the headache that is Manny Ramirez. Not to mention the fact that Angelos, values money over winning, would be vry hesitant to trade for a player making around $20 mill per.

I doubt the Astros, simply because they have to set aside SOME money to possibly re-sign Clemens, if Roger wants to come back in 2006. Besides outside of Taylor Buchloz (the kid that got for Wagner, sp?) is prolly the closest to being a "high end prosect" the Astros have. And if the Stros are seriously considering the Lidge for Abreu deal, then that would effectively take them out of the Tejada sweepstakes. Realistically,it is really down to two teams...Cubs and Angels.

They didn't offer Clemens arbitration, they can't sign him until May 1.

The Mets are said to be intrested too. I think they could put a package together that could compete with the Cubs. However, if Anehiem wants to part with a few of the studs they have on the farm no team will be able to compete.

Er...Buchholz isn't really a high-end prospect. A couple of years ago he was, but that ship has sailed.

Hirsh, Nieve, and Astacio are the three top young ML-ready pitchers in that organization. They have some promising guys in the lower levels (Barthmaier, Patton), to boot.

I'm maybe ahalf-baked idiot, but not a total idiot, and I do know he wasn't offer arby. Now he isn't going to sign with any team outside of Texas, you know it, I know it, and Clemens knows it.

Boston has contacted Clemens and he hasn't ruled out signing with the Red Sox.

I'll never understand this "friendly" relationship Clemens has with the Houston owner. It seems to be a bit one sided to me.

Would that make Reyes available? If so, I would like to see Hendry work himself into the middle of that deal as well.
