I've heard a lot about Tejada not getting along with Hernandez, but this article seems to dispute that.

In fact, they were signing free agent catcher Ramon Hernandez to a four-year, $27.5 million deal. Hernanadez and Tejada are former teammates in Oakland and are the godfathers of each other's children. Both are also good friends with longtime Oriole Melvin Mora.

Supposedly they've had issues since then.

I'll go on record as being in favor of sending Hill, Marshall, and Pie for Tejada. It's a lot of value, but I think we can get by doing that.

Seconded!

If the Orioles decide to trade Tejada there certainly would be much interest, particularly from the Boston Red Sox, who seem eager to acquire the shortstop. A large obstacle to a trade with the Red Sox was removed on yesterday when a source close to outfielder Manny Ramirez said he would "absolutely" accept a trade to Baltimore.

Ramirez's willingness makes it more likely the teams can make a deal. Obviously, there are other issues involved, such as whether Baltimore would want to trade Tejada to a team in its division, and how much money the Red Sox would offer. One Baltimore official said the team would want a considerable amount of money from Boston to offset the difference in annual salaries, and another player, possibly pitcher Bronson Arroyo.

The most important issue is whether the Orioles will trade Tejada at all. If so, it seems they won't have trouble finding a trading partner. Numerous radio reports in Chicago said the Cubs would be willing to put together a package. It seems reasonable to think the Cubs would have to offer either starter Kerry Wood or starter Mark Prior plus prospects.

One Orioles official believed the Los Angeles Angels could be a good match since they could offer shortstop Orlando Cabrera, first base prospect Casey Kotchman, and pitching prospect Ervin Santana. It appears the Angels are interested. The New York Mets are rumored to be involved. However, the Orioles say they have had only initial conversations with teams.

Is that Paul Sullivan in disguise?

I'd offer Wood in a second (especially if that meant we could keep Pie), but would he waive his NTC?

I have serious doubts of him wanting to play for the crappy Orioles and having to pitch in the AL East. The only way he might is if the Orioles pick up his 2007 option if he's traded.

I wouldn't be suprised if we value Prior a lot more then fans/writers of other teams do

Quite possibly, although given the way various non-Cubs sites have slobbered over him (see: Baseball America), I don't think it's that much of an overrating.

He's fragile, remember.

I'm just thinking about this, and realized, why the heck would the Orioles trade Tejada to the Red Sox for Manny? The Orioles need pitching obviously, so in my opinion, it would be rather stupid for them to trade for Manny. Same with the Red Sox. I'm sure the Red Sox could get some good players for Manny, including a good starting pitcher. I just think Manny for Tejada is a stupid deal for both teams. I'm not saying the Cubs are the best match, because I actually think the Angels are, but I dont know, just seems that would be a dumb trade for both teams, even though it probably wont go down.

I'm going to go against the grain and say I would not make this trade.

I would be willing to part with all of those prospects for a bat that would be the centerpiece of our lineup. Tejada, however, would be the third best hitter in our lineup. Not worth it, IMO.

In his MVP year, (awarded mostly because of his 131 RBIs) he had an .862 OPS. His career OPS is .815.

This guy is good, not great.

I think if we took that package and threw in Harvey, we could pry Miguel Cabrera away. Much younger, and would instantly be the #1 bat in our lineup.

Cedeno/Cabrera>>>>Tejada/2nd tier RF

This is almost certainly not true.

-It's pretty obvious the marlins are looking to build for 2008-2010. They are stockpiling as many quality prospects as they can that will still be affordable at that point.

A package of Hill, Marshall, Pie and Harvey would be BY FAR the best compensation they have recieved for any part of their fire sale so far.

I believe it's very likely they consider giving up a player who will command a MONSTER contract, for four cheap, high-ceiling players in the midst of a complete dismantling of their team.

By the time the marlins start to gel, Cabrera and Dontrelle will take up half the payroll. I think they realize this, and while it will take a LOT to get him, it could be done, IMO.

No real news here, but this is Bruce Miles' Sunday column........

The game has just begun, but count the Cubs in on the chase for shortstop Miguel Tejada.

Sources confirmed Saturday that the Cubs have let the Baltimore Orioles know they’re interested in trading for Tejada.

Those same sources say the Cubs and Orioles have not exchanged names or talked specifics of a trade, but that the Cubs have let the Orioles know they’re interested in running in the Tejada derby.

Know this, too, about the Orioles: They knew at this time last year that the Cubs were interested in moving disgruntled right fielder Sammy Sosa to Baltimore, and it still took the two sides until Feb. 2 to complete a deal.

Tejada makes too much sense for the Cubs, but I'm beginning to think he'll be too expensive in players to acquire, to the point that our other big hole (RF) goes to some schlub. I'm thinking maybe Hendry should push this Lugo + Huff deal some more, the overall team balance would be better for the same expenditure in talent. And Hendry would have money left over to vie for another pitcher if he chooses, like Millwood.

Exactly. As cool as it would be to have Tejada on the Cubs it means getting lesser talent at RF and maybe not even getting an extra SP. But we don't know what Jim has in mind for the outfield either? I have not heard to much on the Huff, Lugo front lately. Other than forum member postings. Time will tell I guess.
