Houston is a risk, with young players to offer (Brandon Backe for sure), plenty of money with Rajah gone, and maybe Brad Lidge?

Arizona has several veterans to trade (Vazquez, Green, Glaus, Gonzalez) and two top prospects in Quentin and Jackson.

Anaheim has a zillion top prospects, and there has been talk of sending Cabrera back to Boston.

The White Sox? Brandon McCarthy and Bobby Jenks would likely get Baltimore's attention.

These would be the top four contenders with the Cubs for Tejada, as I see it. Anaheim would be my biggest worry, as Brandon Wood > Ronny Cedeno, Ervin Santana > Rich Hill or Jerome Williams, and Casey Kotchman > Felix Pie.

Red Sox offer Manny for Tejada.

Dont know why Orioles would do this as i dont think they would want to trade him to a division rival.

They won't...heard on Sportscenter that the O's already have 7 or 8 offers on the table for Tejada.

Posted

It really does seem like he is going to be traded somewhere. I figured the O's would have taken care of this situation by now, but it seems to be getting worse in Baltimore. Make it happen Jim.

The teams that I think have the best shot at him are (in no order):

Red Sox

Cubs

Astros

It all depends on what direction Baltimore wants to go. If they want a superstar in return, it will be Boston (if Manny ok's it). If they want big league players in return it may be Houston (Backe, Lidge, Everett). If they want to build with prospects, it may be us (Williams, Pie, Hill, Wuertz). Let's hope they want a youth movement in Baltimore.

I think you have to add the LA Angels to that list. I could see them sending Cabrera to Boston and then trading for Tejada. They could blow our deal out of the water in terms of prospects.

I dont really see Baltimore dealing with Boston as they are in the same division. The only team that scares me of our chances to get Tejada is the Angels.

I can't stand this. All this is getting my hopes up...

Legit News?

git 'er done

Found this over at Orioles Hangout

Exclamation WBAL's Pete Gilbert reports...

...that he spoke with Duquette, and the Orioles are "working to assuage Tejada's demands."

Gilbert went on to say that Duquette indicated the team would have an announcement soon, possibly later tonight. This was just on WBAL News at 6.

Don't have any idea what sort of "announcement Duquette would make, but let's hope this is true.

Also, according to this Washington Post Article, the Orioles have known since this past Monday that Miggy wanted to be traded:

In private conversations on Monday between the Orioles and Miguel Tejada's representatives, the shortstop's trade demand first surfaced and Baltimore, according to one team source, has begun listening to offers for their superstar.

Why would Baltimore be in a hurry? The longer they wait, the better the offers.

Posted

They'll throw a bunch of money at him, give him all sorts of cushy benefits and he'll say he loves Baltimore, or that this whole thing was a "misunderstanding."

If Miguel Tejada becomes a Cub, I'll have Richard Simmons as my avatar until Opening Day.

Posted
My guess is Baltimore is going to try to get Tejada to back off his demands.

I agree. Has there been one report about the Orioles actually wanting to trade him? Seems to me that nothing matters until we hear that for sure.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. By "taken care of this situation by now" I meant worked things out with Tejada and swept this controversy under the rug. If you asked be 24 hours ago I would have said odds are he won't be traded, now it seems like it's unavoidable.

I don't know. It's different because it's the NL, but I think the Cubs lineup with Tejada added would be pretty darn potent

CF Pierre - scratch or slight advantage Angels

2B Walker - advantage Cubs

1B Lee - probably advantage Angels, unless Lee repeats

3B Ramirez - advantage Ramirez...Manny

SS Tejada - clearly advantage Cubs

LF Murton - clearly advantage Cubs

C Barrett - clearly advantage Cubs

RF ? - probably advantage Cubs, no matter who they get for RF

P - closer to a scratch than you might thing. it is after all Jose Molina, not Bengie (splitting time with a rookie)

the Angels big bobbers at 3 and 4 would probably be better, but overall, 1-8, the Cubs would be better offensively.

further, I don't know about defense either. that Cubs team is not good defensively, and the only clear advantage is SS, 3B and Vlad's arm. Anderson is pedestrian in left, Figgins never played OF until he reached the majors and his range numbers stink, Vlad's range has diminished considerably, Kennedy's range stinks.

that's a great team, but I don't think they would come close the the best lineup in baseball on both offense and defense.

Are you kidding me? Erstand can't hold Lee's jock. Since 2001 his highest OPS has been .746, and only one other time has it been above .700. Seriously.

EDIT

Never mind, I thought you were comparing position by position, not lineup slot by lineup slot.

Erstad would be trying to hold Barrett's jock in that lineup.

He was referring to the #3 hitter for LAA (Vlad) vs. our #3 hitter (Lee).

That's a crazy lineup.

I never thought I would see a better lineup, at least talent-wise, than what we had in the second half of 2004, but if we got Tejada and Dusty didn't stupidly bench Murton, there's a very real possibility that the 06 lineup would exceed it.

I know everyone would like to see something guaranteed solid to fill that question mark, but the quesion has to be asked:

does that lineup allow the Corey Patterson Experiment to continue on the northside of Chicago?
