Last year with the cubs Williams posted a 3.91 ERA. Marquis is one year away from FA and will make ~5M next year. Williams is 4 years way from FA and will make 450K next year. How exactly does Marquis have more value?

Batting average:

Marquis - .310

Willaims - .100

Do I need to continue? 8)

OK, but seriously... I probably do discredit Williams' trade value.

I just don't understand how the hell Latroy Hawkins can land anyone with any trade value... and on top of that, they throw in Aardsma!?

That said, I don't think it's realistic to expect either Williams nor Marquis to be the centerpiece to any Abreu deal. Yes, they are both groundball pitchers, but it doesn't matter... It's not like they're guys that will step in and be anything more than #4 starters... maybe #3 if they reach their potential.

Newest info on Abreu from Rotoworld:

Bobby Abreu - OF - Phillies

The Phillies have discussed a deal that would send Bobby Abreu to the Dodgers for Derek Lowe or Brad Penny.

The two teams have already met twice and are scheduled for more talks today. Considering that neither Lowe nor Penny comes cheap, the Phillies could try to force David Bell into the deal, freeing up some additional cash. Also, the Dodgers could consider throwing back Jose Cruz Jr. if the Phillies were interested. Dec. 7 - 4:19 am et

Let's hope Jim is jumping into this party! With the previous reports of us possibly acquiring Lowe I am going to keep up hope that us getting Abreu is a strong possibilty.

If not, the Dodgers OF would be Abreu, Bradley, Drew? WOW

If the Cubs are trading Prior, it needs to be to the Reds for Adam Dunn and Felipe Lopez.

Abreu + Utley wouldn't do it for you? :D

Abreu, Utley, and Rollins, for Prior and Walker? I'm still probably wouldn't do it.

That deal I would do yesterday.

Is this really all Abreuis worth to the Phils?

According to ESPN's Steve Phillips, a trade was discussed that would have sent Manny Ramirez to the Dodgers, Bobby Abreu and J.D. Drew to Boston and Derek Lowe and Trot Nixon to Philadelphia.

Phillips said it wasn't going to happen now, though he didn't say who killed it. It seems to us that the Phillies would have been the big losers. The Dodgers would have gotten Ramirez for two players who have to be considered overpaid

Ditto. I could care less about Rollins, but Utley is the bomb.

Would you believe you could trade:

Hundley

Hawkins

A.Gone

Brendan Harris/Francis Beltran

Bobby Hill

Choi

And get significant to all star production back for many of them? Hendry has a good track record of trading.

Hendry also traded for Macias, you may recall.

Lowe and Nixon?

I KNOW we can match that.

Pie + Williams + Welly/other of the million minor league arms we have.

Yeah I couldn't believe what I read. Plus Pie/Williams/Welly are going to be cheaper for a few more years thus freeing up money for an additional pitcher for the Phils.

Was it just me or did the RedSox really upgrade their OF in such a deal?

Ok, it's official. If this deal was made, the invisible Red Sox GM would have become the best GM of all time.

Roto is now saying that rumor wrt the Phils involved Jason Michaels, not Abreu.

Goes on to suggest Phils are resigned to not getting a 1 starter, they might be satisfied (reading between the lines) with a 4 starter and bullpen help? If so, let's talk, Pat!

I've got Jerome, Rich Hill and Roberto Novoa for you, let's make a deal.

:-)

That's not near enough! One of Prior or Z will have to go if you want B.Abreu.

I bet you could get him for Pie + a few arms.

Are the Dodgers really considering moving Drew?

Hmmm.

My thoughts exactly.

I was already dreaming of Drew before there was a hint of his availability. He is a big-time injury risk, but as I wrote in another thread, he's exactly what the Cubs need for RF and at this point they have to take a shot and try to get an impact player somehow.

Doubtful.

They want a front of the line starter now. Not prospects.
