  1. I believe, ironically, Sampson chaired a coaching ethics committee at one time? Did he not? Well, IU you got your Kelvin Sampson and Eric Gordon along, with U of I in crapper this season. However, I believe Weber and the Illini will recover and be back on the map, not so sure about IU. Hope it was worth it...
  2. Illinois by the way, has some more than decent talent coming in, Weber has really stepped up his recruiting and has commitments from arguably the state' top two players (2010) and boatload of talent coming in 2009. At this point far superior to what Indiana has for 2009 and 2010, as for 2008, I believe you'll see a vastly improved Illini team - Legion and Smith can do something most of the current Illini can't do - shoot.
  3. Most definitely, it could be but, I'm beyond the point of caring about the economic ramifications, I’d like to see Cub WS in my lifetime, if this signing gets the Cubs there costs be damned.
  4. To someone with a decent baseball mind yes, this deal makes perfect sense, but, does it make sense to Jim Hendry?
  5. I wonder how many places like stores and restaurants won't let you in if you're wearing that? I just wish Harry was alive to pronounce it on the radio. Back words...
  6. If you really think this is why Michigan is kicking our butts, please take a seat in the losers section. Not at all however, for the last two weeks I've watched Michigan' opposition get called for holding while they continue to drag defenders to the ground without a call.
  7. Of course, holding on MSU, hey Officials why don't you look at those guys in Maize and Blue - the best holders in the nation.
  8. yeah, are you just starting to follow the big ten? btw nice job giving up 31 points in the first quarter, USF. Not a first time Big Ten follower, just someone who's getting very frustrated with UM and their holding.
  9. Is there some unofficial Big Ten policy about not calling holding on Michigan? On both of Hart' big runs there were big time holds most especially, #44 on the last run.
  10. That had Mike Quade written all over it...
  11. Basically Byrnes said that the Dbags outplayed the Rockies the 1st two games but that the Rockies won because they are lucky. More Byrnes whining within the same article, said nothing has gone their way thus far. Well if one doesn't include the regular season and the NLDS I guess he's right, lap it up Diamondbacks. You're done after tonight - shouldn't have been in the playoffs in the first place. Hey Tony Clark - Anybody at anytime, what's it after tonight? Nobody at no time?
  12. That would be really depressing if that happens I want this to happen. I've learned to hate the D'backs. Not only a sweep but, I'd like to see Mister Intensity Bug Eyes Valverde blow a save in the process - wonder how much he'll jump around under such circumstances. Yeah, I know it's probably illogical to hate him and yet love Zambrano as much as I do...but I really want this to happen. Of course, my view is bias however, I don't believe Zambrano is quite as obnoxious.

  14. Diamondbacks turn to be swept - book it.
  15. Considering he only hit .237 on the season, I'd say most teams have already figured that out. The Cubs on the other hand... Indulging in woulda, coulda, shoulda if Lilley throws a breaking ball (I was calling for one) to Young in game 2, he probably K's him and escapes the inning. Could have changed the outcome of that game, heck I'm fairly certain that if the Cubs would have gotten game 2. Everyone would have relaxed and quite probably the Cubs win the series in 4 games.
  16. Wonder if the Rockies will figure out Chris Young can't hit a breaking ball?
  17. Credit their scouting, what puzzles me is the Cubs scouting wasn't able to observe or figure out Chris Young can't hit a breaking ball. Hell, from game 2 alone they should have able to determine he can't hit a breaking ball. After the 3R HR, didn't Hart or Marmol make him look pathetic with sliders? So, with the results of game 2 in hand, how do you start him off in game 3? With a FB of course!!!!!
  18. If the Cubs being in middle of the pack offensively are mediocre, at best, what are the Diamondbacks with their offense? Sure, the Cubs got beat but, lets not kid ourselves that the Diamondbacks were or are the better team. I'll give some credit to them for beating the Cubs however, they in large part were fortunate that the streaky Cub offense of May decided to show up. Cubs had what, 30+ LOB? and went 1-30+ RISP and either missed, popped-up or dribbled countless hanging breaking balls and badly located fastballs. Colorado' got a very good chance to expose the fraud that is the Diamondbacks, that trick of opposition whiffing on every mistake and freezing up with RISP is not going to work again. By the way, does anyone know why the Cubs kept throwing fastballs for strikes to Young? He can't hit a breaking ball to save his life and Cubs kept throwing him the only pitch he can hit - smart.
  19. The MO for tonight is the polar opposite, they're facing guy who's stuff is mediocre to begin with and if you let him, will walk himself into trouble 95BB in 190+IP.
  20. Nah. 1984 game 5. I was a wreck. I was in college, watching in my apartment, and when the grounder went through Durham's legs, I walk over tothe kitchen, picked up a chair and repeatedly smashed it against the wall until it was a pile of toothpicks. Never said a word, and nor did my roomate. I remember that Sunday afternoon, how in the hell did San Diego, a team with four less wins than the Cubs get home field advantage? - that 2-3 format was a load of crap.
  21. I found Darling' comparison of the Diamondbacks to 1988 Dodgers pretty funny and way off. That team managed to outscore its opponents (628-544) and had three times as many good starters (Hershiser 23-8, Leary 17-11, Belcher 12-6 all with ERA' under 3) as these Diamondbacks.
  22. Tonight' game thread has yet to be posted but, the name of the game tonight has to be patience. Davis has issued 95 BB in 192 and 2/3 IP, if you take a few pitches you'll get some base runners and get ahead in the count which means you're more likely to get something good to hit. If the Cubs take this approach they'll crush Davis tonight.
  23. Last night' game wasn't an unexpected result but, if the Cubs lose this series I'll be extremely disappointed. I could almost accept the playoff losses in '84, '89, '98 and '03 in each case, the Cubs lost to an evenly matched ('84,'89) or better team ('98,'03) however, in this series the Cubs are facing an inferior team. I've heard the better team usually wins a playoff series hopefully, it holds true for this series.
  24. Bingo!!! My wife has asked about it, told her what Bartman did was immaterial to outcome of that inning, the big play was Gonzalez botching that potential DP grounder.
