  1. It appears to me that pitchers have throwing to him in the same exact manner every at bat. In fact, its been going on for, at least, the last two months. Its hard for me to believe he or the coaches have yet to figure this out yet, he continues to take the same pitch for strike after strike. Why hasn't he made any adjustments? Pitchers have found an effective approach - they're not going to alter it until Lee renders it ineffective.

  3. Is Derek Lee going to stop sucking anytime soon?
  4. I thought it was the right call however, I was worried that Dempster would walk in two or more runs. But, the saving grace is the Brewers are actually worse than the Cubs at drawing BB's and Mench will swing as long as the pitch resides in the same zip code.
  5. Well, the supposed "Ace" didn't show up last night, funny, every time the Cubs have needed Zambrano to come up big he's failed miserably. If the Cubs still manage to win the division, I wonder if Lou shouldn't go with Hill or Lilly as his No. 1 starter.
  6. Desperation on the Brewers side really helps optimism for us. This is a pretty big gamble in starting Sheets, hopefully it doesn't pan out for the Brewers. It just sucks that whenever we should knock a guy around we end up getting shut out or something. I have a feeling Sheets will struggle with control, and I'm afraid our hitters just wont let themselves get ahead in counts. But again, I still think we drop a big crooked number on Sheets in the first couple innings. It sure would help if the Cubs approach Sheets as opponents seem to approach Zambrano - take, take, take and let him pitch himself into trouble. 14th in Walks in the National League. :? Very frustrating, I believe this may be a contributing factor in their struggles vs LHP. Most of them have been soft tossers who stay outside, the Cubs refusing to take a pitch never let them get behind in the count. As result, they stay outside, never come inside and the Cubs hit weak grounders and lazy fly balls.

  8. It sure would be great if the supposed "Ace" shows up tonight and not the fellow who has given up 10 ER over his last 12.1 IP including a 2R HR to Matt Cain (sporting a robust .082 BA).
  9. Somebody needs to tell Fonzie to lay off the first pitch or two tonight...make Sheets work early.... Maybe he could talk to the Riot about that... Or maybe not: Soriano: 3.65 P/PA Theriot: 3.59 P/PA Do you have the above statistics for his stretch in the one spot? In the leadoff spot: Soriano; 3.62 P/PA Theriot: 3.47 P/PA Thanks, I guess its a case of illusion over reality - I should have checked the statistics first...
  10. because it's a race between marginal teams. you can argue who is better but none are good and thus none are capable of pulling away. I believe what separates the Cubs from the Brewers and Cardinals is their pitching; it’s far and away the best of the three. And, eventually it'll win out...

  13. It'll be much easier if Lee and Ramirez start to hit again.
  14. Without question the Cubs have the best pitching staff in the NL Central this fact is why I believe they're going to win the Division. How easily depends upon whether or not Lee and Ramirez start to produce, Soriano not withstanding, if Lee and Ramirez get it going the Cubs will comfortably win the Central. If they keep limping along as they have the past month+, its going to be a close tough fight to end.
  15. Do you blame Lou for the inability to do anything with crappy pitching they faced during innings 1-6?
  16. Flat out luck, twice Jones hits a rocket and Arizona pulls a play out of their collective asses. I dearly hope the Cubs make the playoffs and play these guys in the first round - that lucky crap has a way of turning around in the playoffs.
  17. Should that happen and Marquis gets a start someone should tell him Young can't hit a breaking ball.
  18. What a fantastic job by Lee, takes the pitch put on tee then hits a feeble grounder, AWESOME!!!!!
  19. While Marquis sucks, Petit is worse, saw him last week, he's terrible - there's no reason the Cubs shouldn't pound this clown.
  20. Raise your hand if you knew after that miracle top of the first, Marquis was going to give all it back and then some.
  21. He swung the bat pretty well yesterday. Since Lou always loves to play new guys as soon as they arrive, I'm betting the lineup looks like this... Theriot Jones Lee Ramirez Floyd Monroe DeRosa Kendall Won't be watching the first hour or so. Hopefully I can come back and see a Cubs lead. I think Monroe might PH today but I think he'll get his first start tomorrow against the lefty, Doug Davis. Theriot Jones Lee Ramirez Floyd DeRosa (Lou hates Murton and the GIDP didn't help I'm sure) Fontenot (2-4, RBI yesterday) Kendall Marshall ...is my guess That's what I'm thinking as well, by the way, I could go the remainder of the season without seeing Murton pinch hit again.
  22. It was frustrating watching them lose this game. Giants being the poor team that they are must be given the game to win - the Cubs sure did accommodate. You could feel that, knowing their chances were slim to none, they were hoping/praying for Zambrano to get himself in trouble.
  23. Owings looks to be a bigger threat with his bat than his arm, the Cubs should win this game.
  24. I don't know the source of CBS' line but, how in the Sam Hill are the Cubs underdogs today vs. the Cardinals?
  25. Teams have even taken to throwing fastballs right down the middle of the plate - How many times have we seen him take a fb placed on tee for strike 1 or 3?
