  1. As simplistic as it sounds the key may be throwing strikes, if Zambrano and the rest of the Cubs staff consistently throw strikes they'll win the series. Without a few BB's to help them out I don't believe the Diamondbacks are capable pounding their way to runs.
  2. I don't if they'll dominate but, they'll win the series. The Phillies are little more consistent on the road as a result, they've got a pretty good chance at getting one in Colorado. True, the Rockies pitching has improved but, the fact remains they're still a team that' awesome in Colorado and not so on the road: Home: .298,.372,.480 BA,OBP,SLP Road: .261,.336,.395 Compared to the Phillies splits: Home: .280,.357,.475 BA,OBP,SLP Road: .268,.350,.442
  3. A scout' take on the Diamondbacks, I found the comments about Webb somewhat surprising given everyone' falling all over themselves with praise for Webb: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-071002dbacksscout,1,4234825.story?coll=cs-home-headlines
  4. If one looks hard enough these kind of arguments can be made to make almost any team look bad. What of the might Diamondbacks? Remove their 24-9 record vs the NL East and they don't sniff the playoffs.
  5. Barrett and his inability to catch the ball may have cost the Padres the game but, what the heck happen to Trevor Hoffman? Two consecutive blown saves? When was the last time he did that? I was rooting for the Padres in the hopes of a Cubs-Padres NLCS in which, I envisioned the Cubs coming back from being down 3-1. In the most painful way possible - game 7(assuming the Cubs are the home team), down a run, bottom of the ninth, Cubs down to their last strike, Theriot beats gets on with a infield single. Derek Lee comes up, gets down 0-2 and then hits a HR into the RF basket. Revenge for 1984.
  6. Even Lou hasn't done much of it, I'd like to see some hitting and running vs Webb. Its pretty difficult to elevate the ball, might as well try to use the gb's to your advantage.
  7. Here's hoping Marquis is not on the playoff roster, the Cubs wouldn't be here without his contributions but, he's clearly done for the season.
  8. Playoff beard? Thought that was more of an NHL tradition...
  9. That has a funny way of turning around in the playoffs.
  10. Phillies being shut out by Matt Chico thru 5 - wow.
  11. Why?! Is some sort of a senority factor at work here? For, if its based upon quality Froemming would be no where near a playoff series. He's cleary one of the worst, if not the worst Umpire in Baseball anyone with eyes can see that. Got to keep that crew away from San Diego after what happened last weekend. That's understandable however, Froemming' crew should not be working the playoffs at all.

  13. Couldn't happen to a better team or franchise for that matter, I'm throughly enjoying it.
  14. What a night, Cubs about to be NL Central Champs and Mets start to put the finishing touches on one of the biggest choke jobs of all time - in Ron' words couldn't happen to a better team.
  15. Perhaps, the best result of the Marlin series is we'll quite probably never see Trachsel pitch in a Cubs uniform again.
  16. What proved to be costly was their inability to get the non-quality hitters in Marlin lineup out i.e., everyone save for Ramirez, Hermidia and Cabrera. I don't qualify Uggla as good hitter, sure he's got a lot of power for a 2B but, there nothing else he does well.
  17. And miss re-runs America' Funniest Home Videos? That's crazy talk...
  18. Were we the only ones who knew that if Jones didn't swing the bat at all Pinto would have walked him? Does Lou have or know what a take sign is?
  19. you say this as if the zone changes pitch to pitch as opposed to the way it actually changes, half inning to half inning. You're right, I over exaggerated, it does change half inning to half inning.
  20. Can we at least assume foul balls are going to be called foul and the strike zone is not going to change from pitch to pitch?
  21. Seriously, is there a good brewery in Milwaukee or Wisconsin for that matter? I've had Lienies' Brews, the Creamy Dark Lager is decent.
  22. Boy, am I glad the Brewers pulled a Cubs tonight, Kelly Stinnet drawing a bases loaded walk to beat you? That's Cubs like all the way...
  23. I know its a crap shoot with relievers but, trading a very successful set up man - Marmol and prospect who still may pan out - Pie (Cedeno' a throw-in). For a SS on the downside of his career and SP coming off elbow surgery?
  24. Losing to Willis is understandable however, there's no reason the Cubs shouldn't pound Barone tonight. He's had at best, limited success in the minors, the Cubs will get this one (tonight, I hope).
  25. If future Yankee Slugger Prince Fielder pulls a hammy in the first inning of tonights game, I dare you not to celbrate just a little bit. You have to be able to run to do that.
